CATIA V5 Import - CAM (Hole) Attributes mapping To provide CAM information suitable to defined standards for files imported from this system, each CAM attribute read from a CATIA V5 model can be mapped to the relevant "Feature Manager" type (e.g. DRILL_3) and relevant colour (e.g. DRILL_3 = 43). Such association can be done through editable configurations available in the \User_Profiles\Default\xxx\HolesAttributes.cfg. It is also possible to choose whether to import original face colours (default) or apply those defined by the current "Feature_Configuration" (apply_colors = 1). Useful to map standards on holes defined by the automotive market with CAM in VISI.

Machining

2.5 Axis

• 2.5 Axis operation speed increase and managed by the Process manager 2.5 Axis operations are now supported by the process manager. It allow the user to work with VISI during the 2.5 Axis toolpath build. Reduced the calculation time for Facemill, Pocket, Mill and Remachining 2.5 Axis operations

Note: When operations are generated by the “run compass” command the toolpath build from process manager is not supported, therefore the build is made in synchronous mode ( system is locked until all builds are finished).

Page 61

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

• Below some speed comparison on 2.5 Axis operations:

Page 62

Page 64

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

Page 65

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

• 2.5 Axis operation build speed improvement on patterns Reduced calculation time for Facemill, Pocket and Mill operations when machining patterns.

Page 66

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

• 2.5 Axis: Improved linking on Pocket operation, when using the In to Out step-over method

Improved linking algorithm to link all the strokes obtainable without rapid movements. This is useful to reduce the number of entries into the stock material. Standard rough option optimises the cut direction (climb conventional) and works the island contours at the end. This new linking algorithm links all different zones, with a shorter path. On the example below, the new linking algorithm links the four areas in only one path. The combo-box “Stay a depth” activates the link optimization when the step-over method “In to Out” and “Out to In” are used.

Page 67

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

Page 68

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

The parameter “Max link distance” is only needed when the step-over method “In to Out” is used. It is the max distance to link 2 points with a link movement. When the 2.5Axis engine does find one-way to link 2 points, one retract to the clearance plane and an approach on the new position is created. Different values for this parameter could create a toolpath with a different sort of path. Lower values could increase the number of rapid movement for the Z levels.

Page 69

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

• 2.5 Axis: Enhancements on Zigzag method (Pock, Facemill, Mill) - improved mill function after the clearance pass

Improved functionality to create the contouring step at the end of the zigzag roughing pass. In previous versions, this was only available before the zigzag roughing pass. When the zigzag roughing is executed before the contouring step, a ramp approach is needed and automatically created (see picture below).

Page 70

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

Note The Ramp approach follows a backward path along the zigzag path, to reach the Z level to start the roughing pass

Page 71

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

3 Axis

• New 3 axis engine (64 bit) Within VISI V2016 R1 an updated version of the 3 axis calculation engine is available. This new engine is fully 64-bit compliant and therefore the most can be made from the performance of modern CPUs.

The most important enhancements are: • Improved performances • Better memory management • A number of important fixes

• Multithread and Multiprocess support

In relation to the available resources (CPU cores) VISI is able to run multithreads for a single toolpath calculation. This means that a single toolpath build can be split in more parallel calculations by reducing the total build time (this is managed automatically by the CAM engine). An example of this is the Waterline strategy in helical mode. Multiprocess is available and supported by the process manager when running multiple toolpath calculation simultaneously, as before.

Page 72

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

• User interface simplification on Groups and faces managements

Surface group and list preparation has been speeded up thanks to a new simplified user interface. The number of mouse “clicks” has been reduced and the preparation process is following a more logical sequence. All dialogues have also been aligned with the “OK” & “Cancel” standard buttons.

Sequence of commands to create a new Face group from CAM Navigator branch:

Page 73

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

Sequence of commands to select / create a Face group from the operation parameters window:

• Improvements on the Stock management in the operation It is no longer mandatory that the stock belongs to the project in order to be selected. It is now possible to select any of the available stocks available in the model tree.

Page 74

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

5 Axis strategies (and 3 Axis ISO Machining) • Surface selection method updated From version 21, ISO machining and 5 axis operations surfaces selection was changed. On V21 the only selection method available was through surfaces lists, based on subsets of projects pieces surfaces. This solution allowed to define different working sets of surfaces available to all subsequent operations. For the new created operations this was the only possible selection method available while for old ones coming from previous VISI versions the surfaces selection was frozen without the possibility to be modified. On V2016R1 two selection modes are now available: the surfaces list mode (default) and the single surfaces selection mode (as previously available on V20 and older).

Page 75

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

It is possible to switch between the two selection modes as desired as described following:

If a 5 axis operation comes from a work file generated with version lower than V21, all the selected surfaces will be edited automatically by using the single surfaces selection mode. For the new selections the surfaces list mode is activated by default but it is possible to switch to single surfaces by clicking the button available in the dialog top toolbar (see picture below).

Page 76

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

Note Once a surfaces selection is done as single surfaces, it is still possible to switch back to surfaces lists mode by clearing the selection and re-entering the selection command (see pictures below).

Clear the single surfaces selection:

Tools

• Vero Tools QuickEditor

Assumption: VISI V21 checks all entries filled in the cutting conditions parameters of the Tool database and if some values are not defined it does not allow the user to confirm and close the dialog box. The reason is that VISI V21 uses these values for the toolpath calculation and therefore if these are not available the toolpath build could fail or produce unexpected results.

The aim of this utility is to offer a simple solution to fill up the missed entries in the general and specific cutting conditions on the Tool database in order to avoid possible unexpected results on the toolpath calculations.

This utility can be executed from VISI if wrong or invalid data are identified on the Tool database, or alternatively, from within Vero Tools.

• Updated user interface

Page 83

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

• Improved mesh export For a large mesh small details can have a significant impact on your simulation. High-quality details can highlight the most important cuts but at the same time the entire simulation process can become slower due to the fact that large data is being processed.

Different levels of quality are now visible also in the exported mesh:

Page 84

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

Path-lab

• Toolpath enquire

This new command allows users to make different types of analysis on the selected toolpath. For example it is possible to highlight linear toolpath elements that are shorter than a given length or to verify if there are vertical arcs in the toolpath and others.

Page 85

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

Post Processor

• Post Processor: improved Z levels sub-program management Improved sub-program management for 2.5 Axis operations. Any equal Z levels could be transformed into a NC sub-program. This functionality is useful to create the sub programs in the NC file, which is useful to manage modifications quickly on a CNC machine.

Page 86

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

MFR AFR WireAFR

• MFR: Improved management for partially threaded through holes Now the thread direction is always used to determine the feature setup.

Page 87

VISI 2016 R1 – Machining

• WireAFR: improved recognition of tapered features Constant tapered features are recognised as such, where possible (while on V21 all conic geometry were recognized as 4axis features).

Page 88
