It costs approximately £210 a year to employ a librarian which ensures 400-500 students a month can access a library, books and a safe place to study and guarantees a young person a job.

THAT IS EXCEPTIONAL VALUE FOR MONEY

Academic Success for Disabled Students: Disability is not inability in our schoolsAt the end of the 2019 academic year, 21 children with disabilities (approximately 5% of the disabled cohort) were ranked in the top three in their class with 11 ranked first (2.5% of the disabled cohort).

The average class size is 60; therefore, there is a 5% chance of the average student being in the top three and 1.7% chance of them ranked first place.

Thus, comparing the percentages, the disabled pupils are doing at least as well as the average student and in terms of those being ranked first slightly better than the average student

The success of the hearing impaired children• In 2019, eight deaf students

• We support with additional tutorials and the book making project which provides them the opportunity to earn additional income to support them to buy exercise books, school uniform etc

Next Steps in our ProjectsDisability Project

The project is due to come to an end in September 2020 but we are asking for a 6 month extension

1) To ensure post lockdown that disabled children return to school

2) To work in 20 schools in partnership with Vision Aid Overseas with the target of screening 19,000 children for visual impairment and providing an estimated 940 children with pairs of glasses and 450 children medicine or surgical support

Libraries and Literacy

In 2020/21 we plan to

1) Provide additional furniture and books to 20 libraries (£950 per library)

2) Provide schools funding to reemploy 20 librarians in those libraries (We would like to support schools to re-employ more of the librarians but the issue is funding).
