No 9 Wednesday 3rd April 2019 KFPS News Principals message…….. Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork and Being Your Best Dear Parents and Friends, Welcome to the last week of this term. Tomorrow is actually the last day of term for our students and we finish @ 3.00pm. I wish all of our students and families a wonderful, relaxing and happy holiday break. May the weather be kind to us and you enjoy all the fantastic activities and events that Bendigo has on offer over the Easter weekend. Term 2 recommences on Tuesday, 23 rd April. Staffing With Term 2 in mind I wish to inform our school community that I will be taking Long Service Leave for the first five weeks of Term 2 to travel overseas. In my absence Faye Martin will be stepping into the role of Acting Principal until my return on Monday 27 th May. I ask that all the Collingwood supporters stay on the bandwagon for me and keep the black and white army strong in my absence. We all know that Mrs Martin is a Kangaroos fan so I am hoping that she doesn’t encourage too many to change sides!! In Term 2, we welcome Mrs Wiegard back from her Long Service Leave. She will take up the reigns in the Grade 6 classroom. Carryn Hendy will be on Long Service Leave for the next 2 terms and Mrs Annie Serjeant will continue teaching in Grade 6. We wish Ms Hendy all the very best as she and her family ‘hit the road’ to travel around Australia. In last week’s newsletter I concentrated on our school value of responsibility and the ways in which we can demonstrate this behaviour at home and at school. This week I wish to focus on our school value of Being Your Best. So what does it actually mean to ‘Be Your Best’? I have thought long and hard over this question. If you Do your Best to do something, you try as hard as you can to do it as well as you can. But to Be your Best means more than just doing your best. It is about the person you are becoming. It’s about doing the right thing even when you think that no one is watching you. When presented with the idea of "be the best you can be", what is being said in essence, is don't settle for anything less than your personal best. Our Positive Behaviour Matrix shows our students that ‘Being Your Best’ in the learning setting is demonstrated by: Trying your hardest Not opting out ( have a go, take a risk) Not putting yourself or others down Setting goals for our learning and striving to achieve them Being self-aware. Personal excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude. It comes from a commitment to do the very best with whatever you have available. So, take it a minute at a time, a day at a time, or a week at a time, but being the best you simply means that you are satisfied with your achievements.

Principal’s message…….. Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork and Being Your Best

Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome to the last week of this term. Tomorrow is actually the last day of term for our students and we

finish @ 3.00pm. I wish all of our students and families a wonderful, relaxing and happy holiday break. May

the weather be kind to us and you enjoy all the fantastic activities and events that Bendigo has on offer over

the Easter weekend.

Term 2 recommences on Tuesday, 23rd April.

Staffing

With Term 2 in mind I wish to inform our school community that I will be taking Long Service Leave for the

first five weeks of Term 2 to travel overseas. In my absence Faye Martin will be stepping into the role of

Acting Principal until my return on Monday 27th May. I ask that all the Collingwood supporters stay on the

bandwagon for me and keep the black and white army strong in my absence. We all know that Mrs Martin is

a Kangaroos fan so I am hoping that she doesn’t encourage too many to change sides!!

In Term 2, we welcome Mrs Wiegard back from her Long Service Leave. She will take up the reigns in the

Grade 6 classroom. Carryn Hendy will be on Long Service Leave for the next 2 terms and Mrs Annie Serjeant

will continue teaching in Grade 6. We wish Ms Hendy all the very best as she and her family ‘hit the road’ to

travel around Australia.

In last week’s newsletter I concentrated on our school value of responsibility and the ways in which we can

demonstrate this behaviour at home and at school. This week I wish to focus on our school value of Being

Your Best.

So what does it actually mean to ‘Be Your Best’?

I have thought long and hard over this question. If you Do your Best to do something, you try as hard as

you can to do it as well as you can. But to Be your Best means more than just doing your best. It is about the

person you are becoming. It’s about doing the right thing even when you think that no one is watching you.

When presented with the idea of "be the best you can be", what is being said in essence, is don't settle for

anything less than your personal best.

Our Positive Behaviour Matrix shows our students that ‘Being Your

Best’ in the learning setting is demonstrated by:

Trying your hardest

Not opting out ( have a go, take a risk)

Not putting yourself or others down

Setting goals for our learning and striving to achieve them

Being self-aware.

Personal excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude. It comes from a

commitment to do the very best with whatever you have available.

So, take it a minute at a time, a day at a time, or a week at a time, but

being the best you simply means that you are satisfied with your

achievements.

Term 1 Music Reflections. As our term comes to an end I thought we would reflect on all the wonderful learning in our music room this term. We have some really great music understandings developing beginning with our foundation students who after just one term of music can tap to the beat, clap a simple rhythm and read and write both quarter notes and eighth notes. Our 1/2 superstars have drummed their hearts out during bucket drumming and through this have been practicing reading not only graphic notation but also conventional notation. In grades 3/4 the buckets have also been a huge part of some great learning and further note recognition, it has also been a wonderful way for our students to build their music terminology around note names, time signatures and rhythm speak. In our senior grades there has been many things but some of our favourites were the dynamics lessons playing with volume and our recent just dance challenge. The senior students have also had opportunities to perform instrumental pieces for their peers. Our second dance group wrapped up last week and the dance looks absolutely amazing. The dance groups have been a great way to showcase how teamwork can bring together students of all ability levels to produce art.
