TEACHING PARTNERS

At the start of this school year, Epping Views Primary School was fortunate to be selected by the Department of Education and Training (DET) to participate in a key school improvement initiative, part of a suite of initiatives to be implemented from 2017-2021. These form part of a significant DET commitment to more than 160 Victorian schools this year, providing additional human and financial resources to schools to intensify their improvement efforts.

With a strong focus on working in collaboration with schools to share innovation and apply best practice from across Victorian schools, the initiatives support our school to continue to improve student learning outcomes with a focus on building learning confidence and opportunities for success for all students.

Informed by learning from international improvement efforts, in particular Ontario and London, participating schools were selected by regions to be at the forefront of this new and exciting work. Schools chosen for the initiatives demonstrated that they had the foundations in place to gain the most from a new school improvement opportunity. Many schools have expressed interest in receiving this level of support in future years. The initiatives provide an exciting opportunity for our staff to work in partnership with others on evidenced based, supported, school improvement practices.

We look forward to sharing the development and impact of this work with you later in the school year.

HAT TIME

Our Sunsmart policy states that all staff and students need to wear a sunsmart hat from September 1 each year. Please make sure that your child has an EVPS hat ready to wear and at school for Monday 3rd September.

BABY NEWS!

week. Congratulations to Katie and Lucas Page on the safe arrival of their daughter Anabelle, Erin and Mervyn Reale on the safe arrival of their son Liam and Kiandra and Rhys on the safe arrival of their son Zayne.

Epping Views Primary School’s baby brigade

continues to grow. We are up to 50 staff babies.

GYMNASTICS PROGRAM FOR YEAR 4, Term 3, 2018

Gymnastics is an important part of our Physical Education Curriculum at PPPS and PIT

Gymnastics has been a provider of Gymnastic Programs in the Northern region of Melbourne for over 25 years. Gymnastics is all about learning to control your body in a wide range of situations. With the proliferation of extreme sports such as skate boarding, water and snow skiing, ski boarding and roller blading, children need to further develop, through aspects of fitness – strength, muscular and cardio-vascular endurance and motor abilities – agility, flexibility, balance, aerial awareness and

correct posture, to participate in these and more traditional sporting activities, in a safe and confident manner. We want the children to experience success and enjoyment within a gymnastics environment that has fully qualified coaches and professional gym equipment.

In term 3, we are offering a seven-week gymnastics program at PIT Gymnastics, with each session running for 1 hour. All PIT Gymnastics staff are fully qualified gymnastic coaches under the National Coaches Accreditation Scheme. Our school has been booked in for 4 sessions every Friday with two home groups from the same year level attending each session at a time. The first session is to commence at 9.30am and the last at 12.30pm.

GYMNASTICS IN YEAR 4– 2018

The EVPS gym program will run on the following Thursday’s: August 23rd, 30th, September 6th, 13th and 20th. It will be held at PIT Gymnastics and two classes will attend at a time for an hour. The times scheduled are:

9:30am - 10:30am 4 MC and 4 AM

10:30am - 11:30am 4 MB and 4 NW

11:30 am- 12:30pm 4 JD and 4 GL

12:30pm- 1:30pm 4 KW and 4 PM

Parents are most welcome to come along but must be seated behind the glassed area and are not permitted to enter the gym teaching space.

Year 5-6 District Basketball

On Friday August 17th, 14 very excited students from year 5 and 6 left EVPS to compete at the annual Lalor District Hoop Basketball Tournament. We had an

Allstar Boys team and an Allstars girls team. It was a fabulous day with both teams playing an excellent brand of basketball. Each team played 3 games and then it was finals time. Our girls squad made it to the semi finals and were unfortunately beaten by Lalor East 14-9 on the day. Our boys team made it straight through to the Grand Final undefeated and it set a final game against St John’s. The boys played extremely well once again and put into practice what they had been training and managed to come out “District Premiers” with a dominant win 23-8. The day was a huge success for all involved and we were well supported by a number of parents and staff from EVPS. A huge thank you to the following people who without their support would not of made it such a wonderful day for our students;

David who spent a number of lunchtimes working with the EVPS boys team in preparation for the tournament and for driving them down to the stadium. To Paul who also drove the girls down to the stadium and coached them all the way to the semi finals. To Deb (school office) for driving the girls down to the stadium and being our scorer for all of our games. Also thank you to Debs son, Ben for assisting and supporting me for all of the boys games. Gerard was of huge support as well in driving a number of the boys back to school after the tournament. We also had Pauline come down to watch the boy’s Grand Final which the boys truly appreciated her attendance and support. Finally to all of our EVPS students who represented the school so proudly and worked hard all day, encouraging each other and living by the school values.
