Children learn a lot from playing. We can sneak in some learning by playing games with our children

that teach a new skill or reinforce a skill they have already developed. The math game Super Sums is

a fun way for the family to spend some time together and reinforce some math skills.

How to Play: From one deck of cards, take out all the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and ace cards (The ace will be the number 1).

These are the only cards you’ll need to play the game.

Each player writes the numbers

1-12 on a piece of paper.

Shuffle the cards. Each player picks two cards and

adds up the numbers on them.

For example if a player picked the number 5 and 2

they would add 5+2=7. The player can mark off that

sum on the paper OR the player can cross off the

two numbers on the cards.

The first person to cross off all 12 numbers

on their list wins!

Dear Parents

Playing Card Games Can Improve Math Skills

Our first Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on October 30th and November 1st. This is a very important time to find out how

successful your child(ren) are in the classroom. You will be able to hear about their grades, academic strengths and weaknesses, how well

they use their time in the classroom, and how well they treat others with respect. PLEASE show your child(ren) that their efforts and

challenges at school are important to you by attending.

To support student learning and social needs there are 70 students who are active in some type of community program. We have strong

partnerships with Milwaukee Christian Center, ECCO, Summit, Walkers Point Center for the Arts, and a new partnership with HIPPY

(Home Instruction for Preschool Youngsters.) Thank you to the 17 kindergarten families who enrolled in HIPPY this year.

CONTEST WINNERS

Los niños aprenden mucho jugando. Podemos introducir el aprendizaje jugando con nuestros hijos juegos que enseñan una nueva habilidad o refuerzan una habilidad que ya han desarrollado. El juego de matemáticas “Super Sums” es una forma muy divertida para que la familia pase un tiempo juntos y refuerce algunas habilidades matemáticas.

Cómo jugar: De una baraja de cartas, sacar todas las cartas 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 y as (el as será el número 1). Estas son las únicas cartas que necesitarás para jugar este juego.

Cada jugador escribe los números del 1-12 en un pedazo de papel. Barajear las cartas. Cada jugador elige dos cartas y sumará los números de las cartas. Por ejemplo, si un jugador escogió el número 5 y 2, sumarán 5 + 2 = 7. El jugador puede marcar esa suma en el papel O el jugador puede tachar los dos números en las tarjetas. ¡La primera persona en tachar los 12 números de su lista gana!

Estimados Padres

Los juegos de cartas pueden mejorar

las habilidades matemáticas

Nuestras primeras conferencias de Padres / Maestros /Estudiantes se llevarán a cabo el 30 de octubre y 1 de noviembre. Este es un momento muy importante para descubrir qué tan exitosos son sus hijos en el salón de clases. Podrá escuchar sobre las calificaciones, fortalezas y debilidades académicas, como utilizan su tiempo en el salón de clase y cómo tratan a los demás con respeto. POR FAVOR, muéstreles a sus hijos que los esfuerzos y desafíos de ellos en la escuela son importantes para usted asistiendo a las conferencias. Para apoyar el aprendizaje y las necesidades sociales de los estudiantes, hay 70 estudiantes que participan activamente en algún tipo de programa comunitario. Tenemos asociaciones sólidas con Milwaukee Christian Center, ECCO, Summit, Walkers Point Center for the Arts y una nueva asociación con HIPPY (Instrucción en el hogar para jóvenes en edad preescolar).
