From the Principal
HPV Round 2 – The second round of the HPV Super Series was held at Victoria Park Raceway in Adelaide on Sunday. Despite riding in the rain and fog and having some serious visibility issues the students did an excep onal job. HOT M finished third in their category and crossed the line only one second behind Crafers, who claimed second place. Momentum had a couple of spectacular crashes and finished the race a li le bit worse for wear, however they s ll managed to finish 12th in their category and were on the same lap as the car that finished 8th. Thank you to all involved.
Long Tan Awards – Nomina ons are now open for the Year 10 and Year 12 Long Tan awards. Year 10 recipients receive $250 and Year 12 recipients receive $500. Students were encouraged at assembly this week to either nominate themselves or other students in Years 10 and 12. Nomina ons need to demonstrate how the nominee has addressed the selec on criteria, which includes leadership, teamwork and community involvement among others. Further informa on can be found at h p://www.adflongtanawards.gov.au/.
College Council – Council was held on Monday night. The main business of the mee ng was centred around the ra fica on of a number of the DRAFT policies that have been available on the website. Please take the me to read the policies on the website, hard copies are available from the school on request. Some of the procedures in these policies are new, however, many are not.
Prescribed medica ons such as an bio cs can be administered at school but a Medica on Authority Form needs to be completed and sent to school. (Appendix B of that policy.)
A endance – Any student with a endance below 90% will be iden fied as being at risk.
Ac ve A er School – There will be no Ac ve A er School next week!! Therefore there will be no bus to training. Note that Junior football training does not commence un l 4pm. Ac ve will begin again in Week 2 next term.
End of Term ‐ As next Friday (27th June) is the last day of term, students will be dismissed at 2:30pm. Parents of bus travellers need to note that their children will be home around ¾ hour earlier than normal.
Natasha Mudie ‐ Principal
No. 17 : 20th June 2014
It was felt that explana on and clarifica on was required on certain points.
On site supervision policy – The school will provide supervision for students before school between 8.35am and 8.55am. There will be no teacher on duty in the yard before 8.35am or a er 3.25pm. Teachers or the Principal do not have a legal duty of care for students arriving before 8.35am or a er 3.25pm.
Signing students and visitors in and out of the school – This is a procedure that is men oned in a number of our policies and is extremely important in regards to emergency management. All students (primary and secondary)
must sign in at the front desk if they arrive late to school.
All students must be signed out of the school at the front desk if they are depar ng before dismissal.
All visitors (including parents) must sign in at the front desk at arrival and out when they leave.
Paracetamol & Medica ons – The new Distribu on of Medica on policy states that analgesics are to be supplied by the parents and only to be given by a First Aid trained staff member (almost all staff at MCC are First Aid trained) following permission of parents/guardians. Therefore students may bring paracetamol with a note from a parent, however they would need to see a First Aid trained staff member to administer this. This would then be recorded by the staff member. Permission may also be given over the telephone if there was an unexpected onset of pain. Under no circumstances should a child bring paracetamol to control a fever, any student that has a temperature should stay at home.

I currently work as Counter Manager for Napoleon Perdis. However, I haven’t always been a makeup ar st. During Year 12 I
was very interested in fashion design and had always wanted to work behind the scenes of fashion shows, although I wasn’t
so keen on the sewing side of that career path. At that stage I didn’t feel that a makeup ar st was something I could do as a
serious career and earn a living from, so a er Year 12 I took a job at the Pinnaroo Pharmacy. I realised that I loved learning
about all the different medica ons, their uses, side effects and interac ons. It was there that I completed Cer ficate 2 & 3 in
Community Pharmacy. A er about 5 years I decided it was me to move back to Adelaide, closer to my family and to fur‐
ther my career. I became the head dispensary technician in a large pharmacy. I learnt so much in this role, and was even
trained in compounding medicines such as capsules, creams & troches. However, once I had done all of this, I wanted more
from my career. I moved into hospital pharmacy at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital. There I
gained even more experience & knowledge, including working asep cally within the sterile phar‐
macy. A er a family tragedy I re‐evaluated my career. I decided that my dream of becoming a
makeup ar st was important to me, and I was prepared to do what was necessary to make that
happen. So I quit my job and enrolled in a 6 month full me makeup course. I have a Cer ficate
IV in Makeup and am qualified for not only beauty makeup, but also special effects. I honestly
was not looking forward to the special effects side of it, but when the me came to simulate a
black eye and even a compound fracture, I was very proud that I could make someone look as
though a bone was s cking out of their body, and even turn them into a gory zombie. Now I do
makeup every day and I love it! I get to be crea ve at work and, being the manager, I s ll have
responsibili es such as reports and sales breakdowns to keep diversity in my job.

You may be interested in a new pathways informa on site www.UniOp ons.com that has been established as a service to students, parents and schools. The site is free. It generates no revenue and is totally independent.
UniOp ons enables Victorian careers professionals, students and parents to easily describe, understand and navigate the various pathways to entering university. UniOp ons.com, and especially the UniOp ons Pathway Finder, are of par cular benefit to those school‐leavers
who do not achieve the ATAR that will allow them to enrol directly into the university course of their choice. The UniOp ons Pathways Finder is a step‐by‐step tool that enables young people to find the best pathway to the specific course (not just ins tu on) of their dreams ‐ regardless of their ATAR.
The site aims to provide detailed ‐ yet en rely diges ble ‐ informa on about the wide range of university pathways that are available to Victorian students. The site includes a range of real case studies from people who have used various pathways to
achieve entry to their dream university course.
CAREERS NEWS
On Thursday the 12th of June Astrid Moyle, Molly Gibson and Sophie Gruen, accompanied by Josh Willersdorf, travelled to Mildura for a ‘Nursing as a Career’ day which was held at the Mildura Base Hospital. Throughout the day we were shown some of the different areas of nursing such as midwifery, theatre, manual handling and li ing, mental health, general nursing skills and a simulated pa ent tour. They were all very interes ng and gave great insight to what each area would be like. We really enjoyed the theatre area as we dressed up in proper surgery clothing and were able to play with equipment. The midwifery sec on was also a popular sec on as it provided a good understanding of the
du es and we were able to see a placenta and new born babies. The Nursing day experience was greatly enjoyed by all students and it was an excellent experience to be a part of.

Last weekend on Sunday the 15th of June five students from the primary school and seven from the high school competed in the second HPV series race. One hundred and eighty three cars raced on the Victoria Park race course in Adelaide in a 6 hour race. Our secondary team came
45th overall with 133 laps and finished 12th in their category. The primary team finished 53rd overall with 130 laps. They had a very ght finish only coming 3rd by one second to the 2nd place team in their category. Well done and congratula ons to all the riders who managed cold, wet and foggy condi ons on the day.
A big Thank you to Ken, Brenda and Andrew for all the me and work they have put into our racing cars and all the help and organisa on on the day. A er a few rolls and crashes on the weekend they have quite a few repairs needed and I know the Menzels will do a terrific job on the cars, ready for our next race in six weeks. Thank you to Bre and Natasha for your support and especially with organising the scru neering and the transport of our cars and race gear. There were many supporters there on the day and we thank you for your help with se ng up and packing down as well as your encouragement. Special men ons to Ken and Brenda, Bre and Natasha, Helen and Sam, Joylene, Julie, Colin, Darren and Shilo who also helped in the pits and on the BBQ. It’s fantas c to work with such a happy and helpful group. It makes it such an enjoyable and successful day for the students and everyone involved.
With a few weeks rest now, we are looking forward to our next 6 hour race back at Victoria Park race course on Sunday the 27th of July. If you are interested in joining the team you need to let me know by the end of this term please.
