Accommodation

Host Family

Irish Host Families have a tradition of hospitality and warmth. This tradition is renowned the world over andhas been a major factor in attracting thousands of students to Ireland for many years. The Host Family is avital component of a student’s learning experience in Ireland, both educationally and culturally and lendsitself to a well-balanced encounter with Irish Life. The Host Families at NMLI are situated all over Cork City,and can cater for the many and varied requests, from smoking to special dietary needs. Some Host Familieshost students exclusively for NMLI. The host family will provide the student with Cork airport transfers,breakfast (continental) and an evening meal. Please be prepared for some surprises with regard to Irishfood; it may not be what you are accustomed to, but is sure to nourish!

Apartment Accommodation

Apartment Accommodation is available throughout the summer in various complexes centrally located andNMLI can arrange this for you. Apartment accommodation usually involves sharing an apartment with, atleast, three other students, where there is a communal living/ dining area and sharedbathroom. In apartment accommodation you provide your own food. Bed Linen and towels are provided,though we do suggest that you bring some extra for your own comfort.

Social Life

Once you step outside the door of NMLI, you are in the heart of Cork city.

Cork is a young, vibrant city with plenty of socialising to do after your classes! With NMLI’s city centrelocation, you will soon know all about the best restaurants, best shops and best pubs.

During the high season NMLI organises afternoon, evening and weekend activities for our General &Business English students. These activities include, for example:Walking tours of Cork,visits to Blarney Castle, Cobh Heritage Centre and Cork City Gaol. Irish music anddancing evenings. Cinema, theatre, pub nights, dog racing and bowling.

At the weekend we organise full dayexcursions to Kenmare & Killarney, the BearaPenninsula and West Cork.

Course aims:to provide an understanding of the fundamental concepts in ELTto develop a broad knowledge of current ELT classroom practice.to provide the necessary skills to teach English as a Foreign Language.to develop an awareness of the English Language.

Admission Requirements – minimum entry criteriaApplicants should be at least 20 years of age.Acceptance onto the course is subject to a pre-course interview & written / oral assessment with the Academic Manager or Course Tutor.

Applicants whose first language is not English may be admitted to the course provided that theirknowledge of the English language is equivalent to that of IELTS 7 or C.A.E.
