Several Accidental Findings from the Iron Age from Grotnica Locality in Guca

Among rst objects recorded in the register of the inventory of archeological

collection of the National Museum in Cacak is an accidental nding from the localityGrotnica in Guca on the territory of Dragacevo. (T. I). According to the researcherswords these objects were discovered as early as 1932 during earthworks, under a bigpile of stones. Aer founding the Museum in Cacak, recognition was carried out atthe mentioned locality and a pretty big necropolis with mainly damaged tumuli wasrecorded. Excavations on three preserved tumuli were carried out the following yearand results pointed out the existence of necropolis under the mounds from the BronzeAge. Burring under the tumuli in Cacak region has archeologically been researchedsince the very founding of the Museum. It is a fact that burial, in this region, wasalmost exclusively done under the tumuli, both in the Bronze and Iron Age. Out of37 examined tumuli there were 10 graves from Iron Age in them. Concentration of

tumuli from the Iron Age was registered in the valley of the Zapadna Morava to the

contrary of very few ndings from the neighboring region of Dragacevo. Because ofthis reason, the nding from Grotnica is even more precious.

Seven objects were discovered in Grotnica: silver arched bula, three iron spearsand three iron knives or one blade swords.

Silver arched bula is a very interesting nding; it represents hybrid shapebetween one loop arched bulas with decorated rectangular leg and hinged bulas.(T. II/1; T. IV/1) e only similar example in Serbia is known from the locality Hisarnear Leskovac. ere are examples from Herzegovina, from Glasinac, from NorthernAlbania, Macedonia and southwest Romania. In all the cases basic shape is archedbula with rectangular leg, while hinge instead of loop presents a new element. Onthe basis of decorations on the leg as well as pelmet shape, silver arched bula fromGrotnica can be dated to the second half of V century B. C.

Swords with narrow laurel leaves twice as big as tube present very common

shape on the Central Balkans from VIIV century B. C. and have numerous parallelsin near and further vicinity (T. II/24).Long knives or short one blade swords are damaged to a great extent thus it

cannot be said here of which shape they are (T. III). As for the longer piece analogiescan be found here (Ritopek, Zlotska Cave), but in the wider surrounding (necropolisFeridjile in Oltenija) as well. Swords from Ritopek and Zlotska Cave date back toVI century, but this shape was also in use later. For the less preserved short piece wehave parallels in Glasinac and they date back to the approximately to the same periodof time.

If it is the same whole, the only more precise dating is of the silver bula whichdates the whole nding to second half of V century B. C.

e nding from Grotnica, although a modest one, when number of ndingsis taken into account, brings new pieces of information about the older Iron Age inCacak region and describes the possibilities and affi nities of domestic workshops inV century B. C.

Quelques trouvailles occasionnelles de lge du fer de la localit Grotnica Guca

Parmi les premiers objets qui furent inscrits dans linventaire du recueil

archologique du Muse national Cacak gure la trouvaille occasionnelle de lalocalit de Grotnica Guca du territoire du Dragacevo. (T. I)Daprs les propos deschercheurs, les objets furent dcouverts dj en 1932 loccasion de terrassements, sousun tas assez grand de pierres. Aprs la fondation du muse Cacak, la reconnaissancede la location mentionne fut effectue et on constata une assez grande ncropole detumulus pour la plupart endommags. Les fouilles furent effectues lanne suivantesur trois tumulus conservs, et les rsultats rent ressortir lexistence dune ncropole

sous les tertres de lge du bronze. Lenterrement sous les tumulus dans la rgion deCacak est observ de manire archologique depuis la fondation mme du muse.

Il est reconnu que dans cette rgion on pratiqua uniquement lenterrement sousdes tumulus, autant lge du bronze qu lge du fer. De la totalit des 37 tumulusexamins, dans 10 dentre eux furent dcouvertes des tombes de lge du fer. Laconcentration de tumulus de lge du fer fut constate dans la valle de la Morava delouest, par opposition de trs rares trouvailles spucrales de cette mme priodede la rgion limitrophe du Dragacevo. Pour cette raison, la trouvaille de Grotnica estencore plus prcieuse.

Grotnica furent dcouverts sept objets: une bule arque en argent, troislances en fer et trois poignards en fer ou pes un tranchant.

Comme trs intressante trouvaille gure la bule arque en argent, qui reprsenteune forme hybride entre les bules arques un coulant avec un pied rectangulaire

dcor et des bules charnires. (T. II/1 ; T. IV/1) En dehors de cette bule, unexemplaire semblable est connu uniquement en Serbie de la localit Hissar prs deLeskovac. (T. IV/2)Plus proche de nous sont connues encore celles d Herzgovine,de Glasinac, du nord de lAlbanie, de la Macdoine et du sud-ouest de la Roumanie.Dans tous les cas, la forme lmentaire est compose dune bule arque avec unpied rectangulaire, tandis que la charnire la place du coulant reprsente un nouvellment. Daprs les lments ornementaux sur le pied ainsi que daprs llaborationde la palmette, la bule arque en argent de Grotnica peut tre oriente la secondemoiti du Vme sicle avant J.C.

Les lances avec une troite feuille de laurier deux fois plus grande que le carquoisreprsentent une forme trs frquente au centre des Balkans du VIme IVme sicle

avant J. C. et possdent de nombreuses parallles dans les environs proches etlointaines. (T. II / 24)Les longs poignards ou courtes pes un tranchant sont assez abms et donc

on ne peut prcisment dterminer ici de quelle forme il est question.(T. III)Pour la pice plus longue, on trouve des analogies chez nous (Ritopek,

la grotte de Zlot), mais aussi dans les vastes environs (la ncropole de Feridjila enOltnie). Les pes de Ritopek et de la grotte de Zlot sont dates au VIme sicle,mais cette forme fut en usage galement plus tard. Pour lexemplaire plus courtmdiocrement conserv, nous avons des parallles sur le Glasinac, o elles sont dates peu prs la mme poque.

Sil sagit dun ensemble, le seul repre plus prcis pour la datation reprsentela bule en argent, qui oriente lentire trouvaille la seconde moiti du Vme sicle

avant J. C. .La trouvaille de Grotnica, quoique modeste par le nombre de dcouvertes,

apporte nanmoins de nouvelles connaissances sur lge du fer plus ancien dans largion de Cacak et voque les possibilits et les affi nits des ateliers du pays au Vmesicle avant J. C. .

Roman Glass from Cacak and Its Vicinity

Roman glass material from Cacak and its vicinity has not been studied thor-oughly until now. 72 whole or fragmented glass vessels from ten ndings have beentypologically processed and they, the greatest number, belong to study collection ofthe National Museum from Cacak, while there are 5 objects in the permanent exhibi-tion. Roman vessels from Cacak and its vicinity mainly belong to ndings from settle-ment layers (thermal baths, villa rustic, etc.), only in two cases they are grave ndings,from Prijevor locality Culjevina (family grave) and from the late antique necropolisin the churchyard of the church Uspenje Presvete Bogorodice (Virgin Mary Assump-tion) in Beljina. Glass material presented in this paper is chronologically sorted out

on the basis of ndings condition, if the terrain documentation from the excavationwas accessible, or if it did not exist, according to analogies from other localities fromthe same period of time. Vessels are divided into six basic groups: bottles, plates, toi-let bottles, bowels, cups and lamps. ree bottles are sorted out into two basic types,while two plates belong to the same type of table dishes. Four toilet bottles of fourdifferent types are from Cacak and its vicinity. ere are eight bowels which belong tofour different types. Cups are the most numerous out of glass vessels and 38 examplesare sorted out into eight types. ere are two lamps of the same type. e vessels de-scribed in the paper date back from the period from I to IV/V century.

Le verre romain de Cacak et de ses environs

Le matriel en verre romain de Cacak et de ses environs ne fut pas jusquaujourdhuilobjet danalyses particulires. De manire typologique, 72 rcipients en verre entiersou fragments furent exploits dans dix lieux de dcouverte, qui en plus grandnombre appartiennent au recueil studieux du Muse national Cacak, tandis quedans lexposition permanente se trouvent 5 objets. Les rcipients romains de Cacaket de ses environs appartiennent pour la plupart aux trouvailles de couches peuples( thermes, villas rustiques, et autres ), uniquement dans deux cas il est question detrouvailles spucrales, Prijevor localit de Culjevina ( tombeau familial ) et dans unencropole de la priode tardive de lAntiquit dans le parvis de lglise de lAscensionde la sacro-sainte Vierge Beljina. Le matriel en verre, qui est prsent dans cet

ouvrage, peut tre orient chronologiquement suivant les conditions de la trouvailledans la mesure o la documentation du terrain de lexploration fut accessible, ou encas de manque de celle-ci, daprs lanalogie provenant dautres localits de la mmepoque. Les rcipients sont diviss en six groupes lmentaires, en bouteilles, enassiettes, en bouteilles de toilette, en cuelles, en coupes et en lampes. Trois bouteillessont classies en deux types lmentaires, tandis que deux assiettes appartiennent aumme type de vaisselle. De Cacak et de ses environs proviennent quatre exemplaires debouteilles de toilette, qui sont classis en quatre types. Les cuelles sont reprsentespar huit exemplaires, diviss en quatre types. Les coupes sont le groupe de rcipientsle plus reprsentatif avec trente-huit exemplaires, orients en huit types. Les lampesapparaissent en deux exemplaires, qui appartiennent au mme type. Les rcipientsexploits dans cet ouvrage englobent la priode du Ierau IVme/ Vmesicle.

Recruitment of Moesia Superior Legions of

IV Flavius and VII Claudia

Crew of the Moesia Superior in II and III centuries consisted of legions of IVFlavius, situated in Singidunum and of VII Claudia, situated in Viminacium. Bothlegions were moved from Dalmatia to the middle ow of the Danube: VII Claudiabetween 63 and 66 A.D., while IV Flavius in 86 A.D. Picture about the constitution ofthe Moesia Superior legions, based on epigraphic sources, responds to general con-clusions about recruitment of Roman legions at the time of Principality. Main sourceof soldiers was the territory of Moesia Superior (72%). Legionaries were recruited onlimes, in cottages and civil settlements near legions camps of Singidunum and Vimi-nacium, and also in towns and settlements in provinces, rst of all in veteran colonies

Scup and Riciari. A number of inscriptions point at the fact that there were soldiersfrom domicile inhabitants in Moesia Superior legions in II and III century. ey arelegionaries with Dardanelles epihor names. A signicant source of recruits for MoesiaSuperior legions were neighboring provinces Panonia, Dakia, Trakia, Macedoniaand Dalmatia which gave 20% of legionaries.

Limage concernant la constitution des lgions de la Haute Msie, base sur lessources pigraphiques, correspond aux conclusions gnrales sur le recrutement deslgions romaines au temps des Principats. La provenance principale des soldats fut leterritoire de la Haute Msie ( 72% ). Les lgionnaires furent recruts dans les limes,dans les canabaeet dans les agglomrations civiles auprs des camps de lgions deSingidunum et de Viminacijum, mais aussi dans les villes et dans les agglomrations lintrieur de la province, avant tout dans les colonies de vtrans de Skupima etde Racijarija. Un certain nombre dinscriptions dmontre que dans les lgions de la

Haute Msie au IImeet IIImesicle servirent les soldats issus des rangs dhabitants dupays. Il sagit des lgionnaires qui portent des prnoms de Dardannelles et dEpire .Une source importante de recrues pour les lgions de la Haute Msie furent aussi lesprovinces avoisinnantes la Panonie, la Dacie, la Trakie, la Macdoine et la Dalmatie qui donnrent 20% de lgionnaires.

Medieval coins of remains Kostunici

from the National museum in Cacak

In 1939 on the estate o the amily Milojevic in the village o Kostunici, remaino Serbian medieval coins and jewelry was ound. In 1956 the National Musem inCacak purchased 15 coins and a pair o medieval earrings or their collection wherethey are still kept.

In numismatics part o the nding there is money rom the emperors Dusan andUros. wo types o Dusans money relate to two huge emissions with a presentationo Christ on the throne on the averse and the emperor and empress on the reverse,i.e. Christ bust on the averse and the emperor on a horse on the reverse. Youngerminting, dened as dinars o the Emperor Uros in the nding makes three money

types rst with aversive presentation o the emperor on a horse and a helmet on thereverse, second with presentation o a helmet on the averse and portraits o emperorand empress on the reverse, and third which was the commonest in the nding withthe emperor on a horse on the averse side and presentation o a helmet on reverse.

ypological, stylistic and metrological analyses o the money rom Kostuniciand rom the National Museum in Cacak bring them in the direct connection withexamples rom the National Museum in Belgrade which belong rom the same,immediately afer discovering, devastated depot. Unortunately, lost as a whole,nding rom Kostunici belongs to not so numerous known remains whose placeand time o burring is connected with northern parts o Serbian state and period oEmperor Uross reign.

Largent mdival de lhritage de Kostunici

du Muse national Cacak

Au domaine de la amille Milojevic, dans le village de Kostunici, en 1939 unhritage dargent et de joyaux serbes du Moyen-ge ut trouv. Une partie de lhritagede quinze exemplaires de pices dargent et dune boucle doreille mdivale, le Musenational racheta en 1956 pour sa collection dans laquelle elles sont conserves mmeaujourdhui.

Dans la partie numismatique de la trouvaille sont prsentes les pices demonnaie des princes Dusan et Uros. Deux types de pices dargent de Dusan sontrelatives deux de ses amples missions lffi gie de Jsus-Christ sur un trne ctace et du prince et de la princesse ct pile, cest--dire du buste de Jsus-Christ ct

ace et du prince cheval ct pile. La rappe plus rcente, oriente dans la trouvailleen tant que dinars du prince Uros se rapporte aux exemplaires de trois types de picesdargent le premier leffi gie ct ace du prince sur un cheval et du casque ct pile,le deuxime leffi gie du casque ct ace et des visages du prince et de la princessect pile et le troisime, le plus reprsentati au sein de la trouvaille, ct ace avec unescne du prince sur un cheval et ct pile avec une image du casque.

Lanalyse typologique, stylistique et mtrologique de largent de lhritage deKostunici du Muse national Cacak les amne en relation directe avec les exemplairesdu Muse national Belgrade qui proviennent, aussitt aprs la dcouverte, dumme dpt parpill. Malheureusement perdu comme ensemble, la trouvaille deKostunici appartient un nombre minime dhritages connus dont le lieu et lpoque

de conservation sont lis aux rgions septentrionales de ltat serbe et la priode dergne du prince Uros.
