Over the last ninety days, perhapsyou have read about the specialAdvertising and Marketing BlitzCampaign we initiated with thefinancial support of the City ofNorth Myrtle Beach.
Realizing the downturn in ournations economy, and the nega-
tive projections made for thissummers tourism business, thecity agreed to grant the chamber$200,000 with an additional$50,000 from the chambersbudget to provide $250,000 forthe campaign.
The results were impressive andhopefully you have seen exam-ples of these results from the
number of visitors we have beenfortunate enough to attract to ourcity. This means critically neededtax dollars are generated to keepour businesses operating and cityservices at optimum levels.
The online marketing campaign, which ran from March 15ththrough July 15th, leveraged theimpact of the chambers currentmarketing efforts already in

Six Commandments of Effective Search Engine Marketing
This is why you first need topush up your website organi-cally, through classic SEO,otherwise you will get lowerand lower in the sponsored link
section no matter how high youare willing to bid for the key-words.
2. Understand your keywords
for every pageBring your customers to theright page once they searchedfor a specific keyword. Makesure each page on your websitehas specific keywords and youdont mix them up to createconfusion for search enginesand most important, for yourpotential customers.
3. Check your meta keywordsIn order to rank highly, makesure the meta keywords youcan see under ViewPageview in your browser match
the keywords on that page.
4. Always create good contentContent is the King!
Google hires so many youngPhDs that is no wonder theirsearch engine is able to act ex-actly like a human mind. Thereis no way to fool search en-gines and the better the content
is (easy to follow, to the point, wrapped around the keywords),the higher they will rank yourwebsite.
5. Focus on WIIFMThis should be the core of yourmarketing strategy - the ques-tion that each and
If you are looking for an effec-tive, low financial risk, lowcost way to market your busi-ness over the internet, I havegood news for you. The answer
is Search Engine Marketingwith a blend of Search EngineOptimization. Wouldnt be in-teresting to cut a deal with anewspaper, a magazine or a TVstation that would be willing tocharge you only if the ad youplaced with them is generatingresults for you? You knowwhat? As crazy as it sounds, there actually is such a massmedia outlet and is calledInternet.
Now that I (hopefully) grabbedyour attention, let me detail sixof the most important rules (Illcall them commandments justto ring a bell in your mindabout how important they are).If you are not very familiar
with the concepts but still be-lieve it sounds promising andhelpful for your business, donthesitate to contact the Chamberof Commerce. The Chamberoffers its members and the lo-cal business community in gen-eral, through programs likeRecipe for Success, manyopportunities to become more
knowledgeable in the field.
1. Perform SEOPeople think they can buy theirtop position on search enginesunder the upper and side paidareas. What they dont know isthat ranking is another impor-tant factor.
every web site visitor asks withno exception: Whats in it forme? Pay extra attention to thedescription of your pages, its
just like the subject line of an
email. You need to grab peo-ples attention and you need todo better than your competi-tors. Who are your competi-tors? All the other nine web-sites listed along with yours onthe search engine results page. Its a tough competition:Click me, no, me, me
6. Search engine market
through Pay-per-ClickYou dont want to ignore astrategy that is able to offeryou a 300% return on your in-vestment. You obviously haveto invest a little bit in order toget a return. This is not onlyfun, but also very effective.
In the end, there is only one
more thing I would like to em-phasize: these strategies andtactics are not without risk.Any mistake you make, anywrong word placed on yourwebsite might have a hugenegative impact on your brand.People talk and you know howquickly words spread out. Onlythis time its the word of
mouse.
