What is NLP?
Set ofrules andtechniques proposed for modifyingbehavior in achieving selfimprovement, self
management, and moreeffective interpersonalcommunications. It is the science of modelling the
patterns of human behaviour. Based on certainassumptions about how language and
movements of eyes and body affect brain (neurological)functions, NLP is similar to self-hypnosis. It is a method in which brain is being influenced through the use of language or other
types of communication to "recode" the way the brain responds to stimuli.
History
Dr Richard Bandler invented the term "Neuro-Linguistic Programming" in the 1970s Dr Richard
Bandler taught how submodality shifts could be used to change habits, beliefs, and create
motivation or understanding. He provided a language for describing & modeling human
experiences. He made a system A system of alternative therapy based on this which seeks toeducate people in self-awareness and effective communication, and to change their patterns of
mental and emotional behaviour
Modalities
Modality inNLP refers to ourinternal representations, which relate to the five senses
(Visual,Auditory,Kinaesthetic,Olfactory,andGustatory)plus our internal dialogue.
Visual
VisualinNLP is the Representational System dealing with the sense of sight. It can be internalor external. Visual people look at the world through visual images and understand by making
pictures of the meaning. Looks are very important to visual people. When dealing with them,
remember the old saying: a pictures worth a thousand words. These are the people who really
do form first impressions.
Auditory
InNLPAuditory is theRepresentational System dealing with hearing. It deals with what we
actually perceive by hearing
kinaesthetic
Kinaesthetic inNlp is theRepresentational System dealing with feelings and sensations.
Kinaesthetic people like to get a feel for things and people. They process information slower than
the visual and auditory people, often looking down while you are presenting- they are literally
getting a feel for what it is you are presenting.
Gustatory
Gustatory inNLP is TheRepresentational System dealing with taste.
Olfactory
Olfactory inNLP is therepresentational system dealing with smell
