THE OFFICIAL INLAND GROUP NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2014

Bill CurriePresident & COO

Here we are – the end of another fiscal year. It is with great pleasure that I reflect on another year in which we saw growth and high performance across the entire company. There are too many examples to name - however, a few stand out.

Our San Diego location, only two and half years old, is already pushing the limits of the facility and has exceeded everyone’s financial expectations by delivering world class customer service in a team based environment.

We moved into our beautiful new facility in Albuquerque. Due to the ease of access and driver-friendly layout, it’s fast becoming the first stop that truckers seek out on Interstate 40 as they arrive in town from the west.

Continuing our growth, we recently opened a parts and service location in Kelowna, B.C. – our fifteenth store in Canada. With our Terrace, B.C. location set to open before the end of the year and multiple major projects in the works in both the U.S. and Canada, our commitment to reinvesting in the business and expanding our service capacity is as strong as ever.

I would like thank everyone who took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Many of you may not know that we are a longtime major sponsor of the ALS Society of British Columbia. It was great to see the videos being shared company wide.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication. Without your passion and commitment, we wouldn’t be the industry-leading company we are today. We have a lot to be proud of and I am honoured to be part of it.

Sincerely,

Bill Currie

Boyd’s Home Office Corner

Meet Dave Donahue & Efren Hurtado

Here at home office, we are very lucky to have a smart, experienced and educated accounting team. Therefore, it was no surprise to hear that two of our own have successfully completed their programs to become Certified General Accountants (CGA), soon to be changed to Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA)!

John Chang, Senior Accountant/Accounts Payable Supervisor, and Sally Mak, Intermediate Accountant, received their designations this summer.

From everyone at Inland - Congratulations, John and Sally!

Tucson has a new Branch Manager! We’d like to welcome Efren Hurtado to the Inland family and to our Tucson, Arizona team. Efren brings with him 15 years of experience in our industry. His most recent position was as Branch Manager for TCI Rental and Leasing in Fontana, California.

Relocating from Fontana to Tucson is a big change. What was the motivating factor? What was really impressive was Inland’s commitment to its employees. They really promote a family atmosphere both at the corporate and branch levels. The commitment to employee growth and longevity is refreshing.

Newly replanted in Tucson, what is your general impression of the dealership? There is a huge opportunity and potential for growth. The Tucson branch has suffered the last few years with not only the economy, but also with massive construction on I-10 which blocked almost all access to the dealership. With the construction completed, we again have easy access from the freeway and can begin revitalizing and growing our presence in Tucson.

What are some short and long term goals as Branch Manager for Tucson?- Increasing profitability and sales for all departments (Truck Sales, Parts & Service).

- As part of the revitalization process, we are going to hold a grand reopening to show Tucson customers our appreciation and promote the easier access to us from the freeway.- Tucson has a great market and we plan to bring PacLease to this branch.- Strengthening existing customer relationships and establishing relationships with new customers.

Thank you to Efren and his supportive family for relocating to Tucson and becoming part of our team. We all look forward to working with you for many years to come.

Prior to joining the Inland team, I spent the last 21 years in Denver, Colorado. I started out as a New Truck Salesman for the Freightliner dealer in Denver. I then moved over to the Kenworth dealer as a Used Truck Salesman and within a year was promoted to Used Truck Sales Manager. I was with Kenworth for over 3 years and then joined the Peterbilt dealer as the General Sales Manager over both new and used. I worked for Peterbilt for 7 years when I made the move back to Kenworth as the Used Truck Sales Manager. Having been in the truck business for most of my career, I chose to leave to pursue real estate investing. I was involved in doing fix and flips and found it didn’t give me enough to do. Just prior to coming to Inland, I was with Bridgestone Tire in Denver. I was in charge of the sales force at 5 company owned stores.

I was attracted to Inland Kenworth by what I have experienced in past dealings as well as customer experience. I knew that Inland was well respected in the Kenworth dealership groups and that the employees were as well.

I look forward to taking the Phoenix branch to the next level, getting PacLease stronger and preparing for our move to the new dealership next year. We will be doubling in both land size as well as interior space and I can say it can’t come soon enough. All of the employees are excited and ready for this upcoming transition and know that it will only help us to serve our customers better. Beyond that, I am interested in taking advantage of opportunities as they come up.

ALS Ice Bucket ChallengeWhen the Inland staff caught wind of the wildly popular ALS ice bucket challenges this summer, we jumped at the chance to participate. As a sponsor of the ALS Society of British Columbia’s annual ALS Memorial Golf Tournament, the Inland Group knows how devastating Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis can be.

From home office to Farmington, we got together in teams and persisted through the icy baths in the name of awareness.

What is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis? ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.

Thank you to everyone who took part in these challenges! The challenge’s viral success has now helped raise

over $100 million worldwide.

What’s Up Around Inland?Inland Kenworth Burnaby is selling trucks again! It has been 14 years since a new truck has officially rolled out of the gate at our Burnaby location. Chris Heays won the race to become the first to deliver a new truck. Chris is part of a three-man team who recently joined Inland Burnaby’s new truck sales department. That group includes Dana Rowe and Bryan Pirie for class 8 sales and Chris as our medium duty expert. Congratulations Chris.

In addition to adding a new truck sales department, Inland Burnaby has also welcomed two new Service Managers. Alan Kelly joined us from Campbell River as the Service Manager for our location and Marcia Beaudet joined as our PacLease Service Manager for B.C.

Welcome aboard, everyone!

The parts warehouse in Kamloops does not have room to turn the forklift around and it must be backed out. If the shipping door is not pushed all the way to the top, the cab will make it through but the mast does not - causing considerable damage to the door. This has been an ongoing problem for many years! Ray Lowe, Parts Person for Inland Kenworth Kamloops for the past 2½ years, decided to fix this problem once and for all. Ray, once a Communication Technician with the Navy, was able to create a radar device to prevent any further mishaps with the overhead door. This radar is placed on the forklift cab and is slightly higher than the forklift mast. If the door is not up high enough, the radar alarm will sound. During the annual safety audit, the auditor was very pleased to see this! The radar device is appropriately named “Raydar”.

On September 11, Kenworth representatives stopped by Inland Kenworth Phoenix as a part of their T680 Advantage Road Tour.

Loyal customers were treated to a day of food and prizes while checking out Kenworth’s new T680 Advantage. Kenworth also had their tour trailer and their new K-series cabovers in tow.

Don Blake, Sales Manager at Inland Kenworth Phoenix, said the day was a huge success. He even said that the CEO of a major North American trucking company showed up and put on a Kenworth baseball cap. The CEO then went to a meeting with the Freightliner boys. They tried to get him to switch hats but he stuck with Kenworth!

Meet Pink Power!

Sutco Contracting, a long-time Inland customer, has hit the road with this pink Kenworth T680 in an effort to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. Pink Power, a 2015 Kenworth T680, operates as a chip hauler in Southern B.C., northern Washington, Idaho and Montana. As a truck that is hard to miss, it will be raising awareness for Sutco’s “Driving towards a cure” campaign.

Joining in on the “Driving towards a cure” effort to raise over $70,000 with Pink Power, Inland Kenworth - Parker Pacific, along with other companies, will be donating one cent to the Canadian Cancer Society for every kilometer travelled by the pink machine.

As our first group of apprentices finish up the final weeks of the accelerated truck & transport technician apprenticeship program at Thompson Rivers University, we have nine new apprentices who just started in August. Meet Colin, Andre, Jef, Nolan, Kyle, Chelsea, Tyler, Justin and Josh.

The program has been shortened from 15 months to 11 months so this new group will be ready to start work in our branches in July 2015!

We’ll start recruiting for the August 2015 intake in January, so please help spread the word. Information brochures are being sent to all branches. We’re especially hoping to find some candidates who want to work in our northern branches!

On September 19 & 20, our Inland Kenworth and Parker Pacific teams showed up at the TRADEX in Abbotsford, B.C. for TRUXPO, Western Canada’s largest commercial trucking show, and the Pacific Heavy Equipment Show. This was the first time ever that the two events ran together. Despite the gloomy weather, both of our teams showed up in full force with multiple trucks and equipment on display.

“This year’s TRUXPO had the best attendance that we have seen in many years,” said Jason Wheeler, GM of Truck Operations for Canada. “The new T680, T880 and K370 models were very well received by our customers. In our equipment booth, we had our Case skid steer, the “Monster Mudder,” which had people lining up to take photos of it.”
