President's Message Retro Pay At least let’s start with some good news, retroactive pay due to the ratification of the collective agreement will appear on this cheque. This is the 2% pay increase retro to July 1, 2019. Remember that the pay is taxable and has been taxed at source. Thus, no surprises from the tax man should be forthcoming but, it will diminish the dollar value. Accommodations The employer is dealing with literally hundreds of requests for accommodation due to the return to in-site instruction starting Monday. There is no way that all these accommodations can be met. They are reviewing each one on its merits and looking at the in-site situation to determine how many can be met. The CTA has been pushing the employer hard to meet as many accommodations as can be met and still have the district operational for Monday morning. I will be in a large high school Monday morning, first thing, to speak to members and experience their situation myself. I have been in many sites over the last few weeks, verifying protocols, talking to staff, students and admin. We will work right up to the line today to get as many accommodations addressed as can be done before the weekend and will continue that work next week, as a more clear picture of the situation in individual schools becomes clear. The employer cannot blanket-grant telework to all and ignore the demand for in-site support that comes from the direction back to work by Dr. Henry and the Ministry of Ed. Coquitlam is not alone, all the metro districts are struggling with this and thus, all the various local associations. As we head into June and another shift in our teaching, remember to make time to take care of yourself!  Teachershave put a lot of energy, care, and time into making remote learning possible and it's important to pause and fill upyour tank before this next phase.
