Interactive Haggadah By Torah Umesorah Educational Resource Center – Brooklyn, NY

Grade Level: Early Childhood-Lower Elementary (1-3)

Description: This simple and educational Haggadah will enhance the student’s enjoyment and understanding of the Seder. Students match up name cards with the simanei haSeder in the right place in the Haggadah. The pictures on the cards serve as visual cues for the children. (This can be adapted for grades 1-3 as well.) Goals/Objectives: Student will be able to recognize the written name of each siman, and identify the siman with a key object. Materials Needed:

• One Hagaddah cover for each student

• Set of fifteen Hagaddah sheets for each student • Set of Simanim picture cards for each student • Set of Simanim name cards for each student • Velcro

Material Preparation:

1. Print, laminate, and cut the Haggadah sheets, covers, and cards. 2. Stick Velcro on each page: one piece in the small box and one piece in the large box. 3. Stick a piece of the opposite side of the Velcro on each picture and name card. 4. Punch and bind the Hagaddahs.

Detailed Instructions – Classroom Use:

1. Velcro the name cards in order on the Haggadah pages. 2. When you teach the Simanei Haseder, show the students the picture card. The picture

acts as a visual reminder for the Siman. For example, the becher is the symbol for Kadesh, the washing cup for Urchatz.

3. Have students stick the correct picture card onto the Haggadah page. 4. Once students are familiar with the order of the simanim, and the symbol for each one,

ask them to take off all the cards from their Haggadah and replace them in the proper order.

5. During the Seder, students can remove and replace the cards as the Seder progresses. Encourage them to hold up the cards and explain what they learned about the Siman.

Variation(s):

• For younger students, you can hand out the Haggadahs with the picture cards already on the pages.

• For older students, you can add more information to the Haggadah. Make the picture cards smaller, about half their current size. This leaves a space for written information about the siman. You can make this information into a removable card, or type it straight onto the Haggadah page.
