On Wednesday, March 3, 2015 selected play-ers from the New Jer-sey Spartans organiza-tion visited Cicely Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts located in East Or-ange, New Jersey. The school was happy to the receive the Spartans’ players as they were recently notified that they were a recipient of the School of the Week program. Nominated by Spartans QB #18, Mr. Elijah Jamison, the Spartans were pleased to provide complimen-tary game day tickets to the schools’ student body, faculty, and staff members to the 2015 season opener. It was so refreshing to see the students, as they were excited to see a former Cicely Tyson graduate give back to their school. After a tough morning of
the NJ PARCC testing, the freshmen class convened in the gymnasium to give a warm welcome to the Green, Black, and White. Mr. Jamison asked students in the crowd which art that they are currently study-ing. Some replies included dance, art, and singing. Already knowing that the school is full of talented indi-viduals Coach Moss offered to do an “On-the-Spot” singing audition, allowing a few students, selected by their peers, to show their talent. Many were eager to give a sample demonstration of their vocal skills. It was decided that a winner would be selected and chosen to perform at a New Jersey Spartans home game. Mr. Elijah Jamison, former Cicely Tyson student was joined by Mr. Adam Savage, Mr. Lamont-Ashad Jordan, Mr. Devon Hull, and Head Coach, Kevin Moss. The Spartans Minor League Football team looks forward to seeing the family and friends of the Cicely Tyson Community School at an upcoming football game. We are also eager to see a Tyson student perform the national anthem at the opening of a game. It was such a pleasure to be there and we truly felt welcomed. Stay tuned for more details in our official Spar-tan TV Episode.

On Wednesday, March 4, 2015 the New Jersey Spartans visited Peshine Academy of Newark, New Jersey. As a recipient of our School of the Week program, the Academy was able to receive compli-mentary tickets for the en-tire student body as well as the faculty and staff to a New Jersey Spartans home football game. Select Minor-League players were able to visit 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students, deliver-ing the message of first – LISTEN, second – LEARN, and third – ACHIEVE. Students were excited to see Spartans’ player, #25, Free Safety, Mr. Keith Lewis, who is also a Bas-ketball Coach at the Acad-emy. Mr. Lewis knew a lot of students on a personal level as he deals with them on a day-to-day basis. It was nice for the students to see what Mr. Lewis does when he is not working at
the school. Accompanying Mr. Lewis were his Spartans team-mates Mr. Adam Savage, Mr. Lamont-Ashad Jordan, Mr. Devon Hull, Mr. Elijah Jamison, and Mr. Jermaine Barrett, as well as Spartans’ Head Coach, Mr. Kevin Moss. The Spartans received a new home in room #207, classroom of Miss Torres, Peshine Academy teacher. Ms. Torres was so appreciative of the Spartans for coming to visit the classroom, as she understands the impor-tant role that athletes can play in the life of a student. Miss Torres said that the New Jersey Spartans are al-ways welcome to come to her classroom at any time and her door would always be open for us. Many of the other teachers at the Academy were just as appreciative as Ms. Torres, as many of their students are highly interested in football. The Spartans continue to put education first and informed the students that they can only come to a game if they get their work done first. This is a great incentive, because it allows the students to see that first comes work, then comes FUN. The Spartans are looking forward to returning to Peshine Academy and hope to see their new family and friends at a Spartans’ home game. A special thank you to Mrs. Gordon and Mrs. Bowman for allowing the Spartans organization to visit the school.
