INTRODUCTION

NIZAMUDDIN BASTI – LIVE CASE STUDY

The principal attraction in the Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti is the Dargah

of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, an important site of pilgrimage.

The Dargah is a significant repository of the cultural heritage of Sufi

philosophy and spirituality.

Once a humble town outside the imperial city to its south, Ghiyaspur,

now stands as Nizamuddin at Delhi’s geographic and cultural heat.

In the intervening centuries, tombs, mosques, forts and capitals have

risen on all sides.

The Dargah and te baoli have survived intense rush of sturctural

growth over 700 years.

Millions from across all faiths visit the Dargah annually.

Nizamuddin West is a posh colony.

The colony is divided into six blocks and has the main entry point

near the petrol pump at the Mathura Road.

The area is greener because it has a lot of parks.

This colony is regarded as one of the posh Muslim colonies.

The tombs of poet Amir Khusro is loated within the Nizamuddin

Dargah complex.

The neighborhood surrounding the dargah is named after the saint,

and is divided into two parts along Mathura Road: Nizamuddin

West where the Dargah complex and a lively market is located,

and Nizamuddin East, an upper-class residential area situated

between Humayun's Tomb and the Nizamuddin Railway Station.

ANALYSIS AND INFERENCEHeight restrictions have not been brought in the Dargaharea.Structures rise upto G + 5.Gas is supplied through pipelines.A proper set storm water drain system is established.Architecture style is individualistic but since it has peoplebelonging to the same community, the style sort of automatically gels well.Parking bays are allocated on either side of the road.A park stretches continuously on the other side of the road – acts as buffer and recreation.
