On January 24 and 25, 2015 six boxers from Maskwa-cis traveled to Whitecourt, Alberta to compete in the subnovice/bronze gloves tournament. Tyrell Four-eyes lost in the finals with a spilt decision, which was a very close bout. He was awarded a bronze medal. Next, Tyrell Crier also had a tough match against an undefeated fighter in which he came short on points which landed him a silver medal. Josh Morin made it to the finals, although he lost the fight he did recieve a silver medal. Then Aaron Lightning, who knocked his guy down in the first round and unfortunately

took an elbow in the eye in the second round that would cause the doctor to stop the fight. Aaron finished with a silver medal as well. The most exciting fight to watch was Shane Saskatchewan who was matched with a fighter from Afganistan. Shane’s opponent would keep coming at him, but he fought with all his heart and would not go down. People were amazed and so was his opponent at how shane stood his ground like a true warrior. Shane won a bronze medal. Our last fighter would be Winston Saskatchewan, who received a gold medal because his opponent backed out on him.We would like to thank Charmaine, the Recreation de-partment, Samson Chief and Council, Erminskin Chief and Council and Ermineskin recreation. And a special thanks to Erwin Ward for getting the Boxing club start-ed at the Jim Rattlesnake building in Ermineskin. Also, coaches Joey Saskatchewan And Les Crier would like to say they are proud of the boys. The boys are all ready

On behalf of the enter staff of the Maskwacis RCMP, we would like to acknowledge and thank Nipisihkopahk Primary School teacher Mrs. Gizzie and her grade 2 students. The students left flowers and notes that were made out of respect for Cst. David Wynn of the St. Albert Detach-ment who was shot in the execution of his duties. Cst. Wynn later succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The handcrafted gestures were found near the Maskwacis Detachment flag poles of the day of Cst. Wynn’s regimental funeral. It is gestures such as these that raise the spirits of all the members at the Maskwacis de-tachment during a difficult time.

On behalf of Samson Cree Nation, Chief & Council, and all four surrounding communities, we would like to express our appreciation and gratitude for all that you do for our community and community members.

The following tips will help prevent cockroach infestations at home.

Good sanitation is the best cockroach control. Thorough and frequent cleaning and organizing are essential.

Clean up spills immediately, especially in dark or dimly lit areas. All waste food scraps and particles should be disposed of promptly; don't allow scraps or crumbs to accumulate anywhere. Make sure dirty dishes don't sit overnight.

Store foods and other items off the floor and keep all packages and containers tightly wrapped and covered.

Carefully inspect all boxes, crates and bags that are brought into the home or food service establishment.

Eliminate clutter and an accumulation of empty boxes, containers, and boards. Separate items stored in drawers, cabinets and storage areas.Rotating goods often will eliminate harborage and discourage breeding.

Keep basements and storage areas dry, clean, ventilated and well-lit.Remove any standing water, repair leaking pipes, and keep floor drains clean and free-flowing. Use dehumidifiers to remove moisture. Prevent an accumulation of liquids on any surfaces.

Check plants and plantings for harborage and infestation. Remove all logs, or tree stumps used for decoration.

Once a cockroach infestation occurs, it generally requires the use of a pesticide. However, pesticides are poisonous—never treat surfaces used for food preparation. Keep them away from children, and store them away from food.
