“A true Ninja will only use their techniques as a last resort. If there is a more efficient way to resolve a problem, they will try that first.”

Energized Kids???by Nurse Ahnnya Slaughter
mom of George(Adv. little ninjas) & Kimi(Mini ninjas)
I was really shocked when I went into Vons the other day and saw the lobby packed with teens and tweens. What could be so attractive to a group of 13 to 15 year olds?!!! Was it a new band doing an impromptu concert at Vons??? Were they having a free giveaway of iPads??? It wasn't any of those. It turned out it the major attraction was Starbucks! Kids at Starbucks?! When did kids start drinking caffeinated drinks? It turns out it wasn't my imagination, according to studies, caffeine consumption in kids have spiked 70% over the last 30 years.
Facts Every Parent Should Know About Caffeine:1) Energy drinks have no therapeutic benefits2) FDA regulates the amount of caffeine in sodas but NOT in energy drinks.3) In 2007, out of approximately 5500 caffeine overdoses, almost half were kids under 194) Caffeine can lead to bone loss because it interferes with calcium absorption5) Caffeine aggravates heart conditions (1 out 20 people have a heart condition called mitral prolapse that give NO symptoms and not usually discovered in a routine physical)6) Caffeine can increase blood pressure 7) Monster and other energy drink companies are currently undergoing lawsuits for several deaths and serious adverse health condition8) Treating ADHD with caffeine is not recommended in the mainstream medical community. Also, kids with ADHD
are at increased risk for substance abuse including caffeine addiction.
