Beaverton,Ore.(April14,2017)–NikehasannouncedthenewestroundofgrantrecipientsfortheNike

CommunityImpactFundofTheOregonCommunityFoundaMon,aninnovaMve,employee-ledapproach

togrant-making.TogetherwithOCF,NikeworldheadquartersstaffandstoreathletesparMcipateinthe

awardselecMonprocess,helpingtocreateaposiMveimpactinthecommuniMeswheretheyliveand

work.Twenty-sixnonprofitorganizaMonsandschoolsinPortlandandSWWashingtonhaverecentlybeen

awardedatotalof$250,000forlocalprogramsthatgiveyouthposiMveexperienceswithsportsand

physicalacMvity,andadvancehealthier,supporMveandmoreinclusivecommuniMes.

Sinceitslaunchin2010,theNikeCommunityImpactFundhasawarded356grantstotalingover$3.75

milliontononprofitorganizaMonsandschoolsinPortlandandSWWashington.

GrantRecipientsAreCommiVedtoStrengtheningOurCommunity

Thiscycle’srecipientsfeatureawiderangeofschoolsandorganizaMonsinthePortlandmetroareaandSouthwestWashington,includingBigBrothersBigSistersNorthwestandTheStreetTrust.

TheBigBrothersBigSistersNorthwestgrantwillsupportphysicalacMvityforat-riskyouthandtheiradultmentors,allowingthemtobuildlifeskillsandresiliency.

“Ourgoalistohelpat-riskyouthfindsuccessinlifethroughtheone-on-onementor/mentee

relaMonship,”saidBeachPace,CEOofBigBrothersBigSistersNorthwest.“Wearehonoredtobechosen

forthisgrantwhichwillallowustogetmorekidsacMve.InalignmentwithBillBowerman'smantra,‘If

youhaveabody,you’reanathlete,’thisgrantwillstewardandinspireyouthtofindtheirinnerathleteby

providingacMveouMngstheymayotherwiseneverexperience.”

AtTheStreetTrust(formerlytheBicycleTransportaMonAlliance,)thegrantwillbeusedforwomen-focusedoutreachandstrategiccommunitypartnerships,tohelpclosethegendergapandgetmore

womenonbikes.ThroughtheirWomenBikeprogram,TheStreetTrustworkstobuildacommunityofwomenbicyclistsacrossthePortlandmetroregion,connecMngthemwithmentorsandresourcestofind

affordablebikes.

“TheNikegrantwillhelpexpandtheofferingsandgeographicalreachofWomenBikeandourcommunitypartners,toclosethegendergapregion-wide,aswellashelpingmorewomenofcolorexperiencebiking,”saysElizabethCabral,CommunityRelaMonsDirectorforTheStreetTrust.“HavingarolemodelcanbeessenMalingehngpeoplecomfortableandremovingbarriers.”

NextFundingCycleNowOpenforOregonandSWWashingtonGrants

ApplicaMonsforthenextroundofNikeCommunityImpactGrantsaredueJune1,2017,withatotalof$300,000beingofferedtononprofitsandschoolsinthegreaterPortlandarea(Multnomah,Clackamas,Washington,YamhillandColumbiaCounMesinOregon;andClarkCountyinSWWashington).

Grantsareone-yearawardsof$5,000to$20,000.EightypercentofgrantawardssupportprojectsthatdeliverimpactthroughthelensofsportandphysicalacMvity,whiletheremainingtwentypercentsupportorganizaMonsandprojectsthataddresscommunitychallengesthroughinnovaMvesoluMons.
