Papercraft is a collection of various art forms with the use of papers or cards as a medium. Very much like Origami, these crafts do often come out as 3D objects. Varieties of techniques are used such as fold, blue, stitch, mould. They are also done in many layers to ensure its 3D outlooks.

The way this is displayed is very much similar to any models or figurines. It will be able to stand on its own and you’ll be able to view them at any angle after it is made, yet retain its realistic figure proportions! Just look at Cirno and Koakuma, aren’t they just adorable!

apercrafting!The Art Of

Discovering the wonders of papercrafting has made me see the world of anime in a new light. I have only been interested in models andfigurines but somewhere inside me has always said that something is still lacking.

That lacking is the ability to createsomething yourself from scratch, and discovering the world of papercraft granted me this ability that I never thought I would have done. It may not look as professional as a real figurine but it does have it’s own unique artstyle. And when I first made a set of these, the feeling of accomplishment was very satisfying!

Eraser stamps is basically what the name is. It is an eraser that has the ability to stamp! A design is carved in an eraser by the use of cutting tools in which in the end it comes out as an image.

The design could be planned out and made easily by drawing the actual image on the eraser first, then carve the eraser along the lines of the drawing. By playing around with the depth of the eraser it is easy to determine the black and white bits of the stamp image.

This is yet another crafty thing we could do for all of the anime lovers out there!

WANT TO MAKE A FOLDING OF ME?

While origami relies on folding from a single shape of paper to make a simple figure, Papercraft relies on many bits of pieces in order to make a detailed figure that comes out as what you just saw. These many bits of pieces are all the parts and clothings of the figurine you wish to make, includ-ing face, arms, legs, and even accessories or items such as hairband, ribbon, and shoes!

Most papercraft would follow a similar template and you are always free to customize it to how you see is fit for the character you are making. Depending on the difficulty of the papercraft you wan to make, the template may range from being easy to very complicated.

Practice is definitely required to master the art of papercrafting, but whenever it is accomplished you will have a wonderful piece of your own.

Cut!

The template above is one of the simpler templates of papercrafting. Give it a try and experiment with them! The next issue will cover full instructions on how to fold a papercraft so stay tuned!

In stamps, you can transform literally any image into a stamp for your own collection! Here we have an image of Pleinair from the Disgaea series and an image of Sanae from the Touhou seires which ended up being carved into a stamp of our own.

As long as you can figure out how the colors are meant to be on the stamp, how to carve them properly and having the right tools, anything is literally possible!Isn’t it great? This is yetanother anime product you can make by yourself!

My inspiration into making anime eraser stamps is no different from making papercrafts. Making things from scratch and feeling proud with the finaloutcome of my products are the most enjoyable thing I could experience. I highly take it as my pride and joy.

Discovering these new worlds where I could express whatever I want in such forms of art makes me feel both free and proud of who I am as a whole. These kind of handmade things could easily adapt to become anyones hobby. If you really do wish to show off to the world your talents with something you love, these stamps could be your very first step! It does not have to be professional or perfect, what matters is that you have accomplished something! As I’m sure you’ll feel as great when you crafting an artwork of your favourite anime character!

Whats so great about eraser stamps is that they can be kept and used forever! You can keep it in your collection along with any of your other animeproducts while always being in a great shape, and whenever you feel like using it again, you can always come back to it!

How about it? Would you like to make your owncollection of these stamps ? We also have a DIY section at the end of this issue to walk you through the steps to making one so what are you waiting for?

1. Find an image you want to work with. In this case I will use Kawashiro Nitori as an example. You will also need a tracing paper, and start tracing the image and make contour lines with a pencil. Also make sure that the whole thing you are tracing will fit the size of your eraser later on, you may need to resize the picture if it is not.

2. Go to paint, photoshop or any editing program to figure out the colors of how you want your stamp to be. Remember that there can only be two colors which is white and the color of your ink stamp!

3. Figuring out the colors are not easy but you have to make sure that the image can still clearly be seen as a character. After you're done, it should look like the picture on the right.

4. After you figured out how you want the colors to be, flip the tracing paper around, place the trace drawing on a side of your eraser, and start to shade the whole area so that the pencil marks can go into the eraser as well. Make sure you don't do it too hard or the tracing paper could tear off! It's fragile! After that, use a pen or a small marker to make the contour lines clear and have it ready for carving

5. Now that you know how the colors are going to be you can start carving ones the lines are clear. Use exacto knives and wood carving tools for this. Whatever that you want to have white, (e.g. background, white space in the character) you cut it in deeper. Leave the colored parts you wish to have at the same depth. Do not cut it too deep either or the shape and form may break apart! Too little can still be fixed, but if you did it too much there is no turning back!

6. When you're done with the carving, try it out on an ink stamp! And if you still think it needs re-working you canalways go back to edit the part you wish to edit. It will then be complete!
