LAST TIME OUTLas Vegas Locomotives 20, Florida Tuskers 17Las Vegas showed quite a bit of character in its 20-17 win last week at the Florida Tuskers. For the second

meeting in a row, the Locos took a 10-0 lead on the Tuskers. Unlike the 2010 opener, however, Las Vegasheld on despite Floridas pushback, and got its first win of the young season.

The Locomotives offense got a big shot in the arm last week from the return of running back DeDe Dorsey, who ran for 99 yards on 14 carries and caught seven passes for 105 more. Quarterback Tim Rattay had his

best UFL game in Week 3 (324 yards, two touchdowns), and is completing 67.6 percent of his passes in twogames this season. Defensive end Eric Henderson, who led the team in sacks with three last season, had twolast week.

Omaha Nighthawks 20, Sacramento Mountain Lions 17The first-place Nighthawks have shown a propensity for starting slow, then rallying for victory. Omaha has

scored just 22 first-half points in two games, and has been outscored 6-0 in the third quarter. But theNighthawks have outscored their first two opponents by a 25-10 margin to start 2-0.

Quarterback Jeff Garcia (509 yards, five touchdowns passing in two games) and wide receiver RobertFerguson (11 catches, 139 yards, one touchdown) have clicked in the Omaha passing game. Middlelinebacker Nick Greisen has led the team in tackles in both games, and has 16.5 total tackles (five for loss) forthe season.

KEY MATCHUP NO. 1:Omaha outside linebacker Cato June vs. Las Vegas running back DeDe Dorsey. June,a late-training camp arrival for the Nighthawks, has worked his way up the depth chart, and has 6.5 totaltackles, two for loss and a sack in two games. Dorsey once again showed his ability to work the edges in therunning game and passing game, and is one of the leagues top skill players in space.

KEY MATCHUP NO. 2:Omaha left tackle George Foster vs. Las Vegas defensive end Eric Henderson. Thiscould be quite a line matchup. Foster is a seven-year professional veteran who has seen every possible pass-rush move. Henderson has gotten his sacks in bunches in his brief UFL career, and another game like he hadin Week 3 could send Garcia scrambling.

NIGHTHAWKS SIGN NO. 1 DRAFT PICK

Dewayne White, the Omaha Nighthawks No. 1 draft pick in the 2010 UFL Draft and a former second roundNFL Draft pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, signed with the undefeated Nighthawks on Tuesday. TheAlabama native spent seven years in the NFL, playing for the Bucs and the Detroit Lions.

In his notable NFL career, White recorded 203 tackles, 27 sacks, 11 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions andone touchdown. In 2004, he tied a Tampa Bay team record by recording at least half a sack in six consecutivegames.

The Nighthawks are confident that the 6-2, 275-pound defensive end will make a positive impact in theteams first away game against the Las Vegas Locos on Friday .

Pass rushers are hard to come by and weve had our eye on this one since the draft back in June,Nighthawks General Manager Rick Mueller said. We couldnt be more excited to have a quality player likeDewayne in a Nighthawks uniform.

    THERES NO PLACE LIKE HOME

After two straight sellouts, the Nighthawks are leading the league in average attendance at 23,242. TheNighthawks fed off the energy from the crowd to help pull off two wins to start the season, but will have tocreate their own energy on the road for the next two weekends. Following the game at Las Vegas, Omahatakes to the road again the following weekend to Hartford. The Nighthawks don t play at home again untilOctober 28, when the Locos come to town. Home teams are 4-2 in the UFL so far this season.

40-YARD CLUBQuarterback Jeff Garcia has been exceptional at spreading the ball around to different receivers. TheNighthawks leader has hit 11 different receivers through two games. Against Sacramento, three passes tothree different players went for more than 40 yards. In the first quarter, Garcia found Mike Hass for a 42-yardpickup into the red zone. In the second quarter, Garcia hit Devard Darling down the sideline for a 41-yardtouchdown. And on the Nighthawks game-winning drive, Garcia connected across the middle with Biren Ealy, who made a move and then took off to the races for a 48-yard pickup down to the Sacramento 8-yard line thatset up the go-ahead touchdown.

THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBERThe number three as in the third quarter and third down conversions hasnt been so magical for theNighthawks yet this season. Omaha has not scored a point in the third quarter yet. Through two games, theNighthawks are averaging 11.0 points through the first three quarters. Of course the Nighthawks are averaging12.5 points per game in the fourth quarter alone, which has allowed them to come from behind twice and earnwins. On third downs, the Nighthawks are 8-of-25 (32 percent), while opponents are converting 43 percent ofthe time on the young season. The Nighthawks were much improved against Sacramento though, as theyconverted 6-of-15 (40 percent) third down chances, and held Sacramento to 6-of-17 (35 percent).

SACK IN BLACKThe Omaha Nighthawks defense showed up in a big way against Sacramento, recording four sacks andbreaking up five passes, making it difficult for Daunte Culpepper to establish a rhythm. Cato June, CharlesGrant, Willie Williams, Kevin Basped and Josh Savage all hunted down the quarterback, while RicardoColclough knocked away three passes, Eric Green one, and Jay Moore batted one away at the line ofscrimmage. In addition to the sacks, the Nighthawks made four other plays behind the line of scrimmage, withNick Greisen recording two tackles for loss, Jay Moore one, and Eric Green and Morlon Greenwood teamingup for another.

FERGYS BIG DAYOmaha wide receiver Robert Ferguson made seven receptions for 94 yards against Sacramento last Saturday, none bigger than the 19-yard reception on 3rd and 18 on the Nighthawks game-winning drive. The seven

receptions matched the most the nine-year NFL veteran has ever had in a professional game. Ferguson hadseven catches for 79 yards for the Green Bay Packers in a 2003 game against Chicago. Ferguson leads theNighthawks in receptions (11) and yards (139) this season.
