I hope that you all had a great summer and that you are well rested and ready for another great school year! I’d like to offer a special welcome to all of our new school com- munity members including our grade 9 students, international students, recent transfer students and new staff members. I am confident that you will all have a great experience at our school. Please do not hesitate to stop by the office if you have any questions or just want to say hello. At NRHS, we believe that parents and educators need to work together to support our students and we encourage parents and guardians to get involved in their student’s education. Please contact your student’s teachers or appropriate grade level admin- istrator if you have any questions or concerns in regards to your student’s progress. As part of our Student Success Plan, we will continue with our school goals of improving student achievement in both Math and Literacy. I am looking forward to working with our staff to achieve these goals and to seeing the positive effect that our efforts have on our students. As part of this plan we will be introducing a number of new supports for students to access, continuing to improve our students access to technology and lots of other new initiatives. To all NRHS students, please keep in mind that high school can be whatever you make it. September’s Principal’s Message

To All School Community Members:

It is with great excitement that I welcome you all back for the 2018-2019 school year. I hope that you all had a great summer and that you are well rested and ready for another great school year!

I’d like to offer a special welcome to all of our new school com-munity members including our grade 9 students, international students, recent transfer students and new staff members. I am confident that you will all have a great experience at our school. Please do not hesitate to stop by the office if you have any questions or just want to say hello.

At NRHS, we believe that parents and educators need to work together to support our students and we encourage parents and guardians to get involved in their student’s education. Walk the Walk for Autism Congratulations go out to the Pictou County Walk the Walk for Autism or-ganizing team, together they raised over $79,000 which will be used to help fund programs for people with autism in our community. NRHS sent over 60 student volunteers to the event. Thank you to Mrs. Allison Lynch-Kearley (teacher at GR Saunders Elemen-tary School) and to NRHS grad '18 Laura MacCulloch for coordinating the army of volunteers!

NRHS Lieutenant Governor’s Award Medal Winners Two students from Northumberland Regional High School, Elizabeth McNeill and Cecilia McInnis, were presented with Lieutenant Governor’s Med-als on June 6. The Lieutenant Governor’s Medal is a prestigious award given annually to students in Grade 11 who have demonstrated qualities of leadership and service in the school and community, and have outstanding academic performance. The Medals were presented at an award cere-mony at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Center.

Wellness Retreat at Durham Community Hall

Local artist, Ruben Irons led a yoga-inspired Wellness Retreat for students on June 14. We practiced at the beautiful Durham Community Hall and had a little walk down by the bridge, even in the rain! NRHS Students Participate in 4H Building Opening

On Sunday, August 26, the County 4H officially opened the new 4H building at the Pictou-North Colchester Exhibition Grounds. The building will be open to visitors for the exhibition from September 5 to 9. Pictured above are Dawson Lees, Grade 12, 4H host; County Warden Robert Parker; 4H Leaders Council President Cathy Lavers; Agricultural Society Chair, Jack Ferguson; and 4H Host Gracien Murray, 2018 Grad, cut the ribbon. The work on the building should be finalized by late fall thanks to a $20,000 grant from the FCC Agricultural Spirit Fund.

National Special Olympic Medals For Kara Grade 12 student Kara Scott took home numer-ous medals in rhythmat-ic gymnastic division. She won silver and bronze in hoop, ball, groups routines, as well as best overall. Congratulations Kara! Everyone is so proud of you.
