SUMMARY OF NIOMR’S AQUACULTURE VALUE CHAIN
THE GOAL OF THE AQUACULTURE VALUE CHAIN•To create an enabling environment for increased and sustainable production of over one million metric tons of Aquaculture fish and to generate five hundred thousand jobs (500,000 Nos.) under a 4-year work plan (2011-2015). All states and the FCT will be involved in achieving this goal.
EXPECTED OUTPUT
• 1.25 billion fingerling seeds per annum• Production of 400,000 metric tones of fish feed per year• Production of additional 250,000 metric tones of table fish per year• Production of 100,000 metric tones of value added fish and fisheries products per year
• Create 100,000 jobs per annum for the next five years which will include at least 20,000 youths and women.
• Over 6,000 Broodstock of Catfish and Tilapia
STRATEGY
Baseline studies conducted on the current status of the various components along the Aquaculture Value Chain due to lack of adequate information in most of the states visited during the field trips.
STRATEGY II
Broodstock Development and Fingerlings DevelopmentOne of the most important inputs to the aquaculture value chain is high quality fish fingerlings in the required quantity. Presently about 1.2 Billion fingerlings of various species are required in order to be able to produce 1 Million metric tons of table fish annually. The total supply is approximately 300 Million, which is just 25%. Correspondingly 600,000 pieces of Broodstock are now needed.
