Dear Fellow PCP Member,

HIV/AIDS cases are on the rise, and now is the time to get involvedas health care professionals and internists. We cordially invite you tojoin us in the conference entitled "The Philippine HIV/AIDS Epidemic:A Call to Action" on May 2, 2010 from 8:00 am to 4:15 pm at FunctionRoom 1 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Metro Manilaorganized by the Philippine Society of Microbiology and InfectiousDiseases. The conference is an official preconvention activity of the40th Philippine College of Physicians annual convention with thetheme "Medicine Beyond Medicine: Traversing Boundaries, CrossingBorders." It will feature leading world experts in HIV/AIDS, includingdirectors of the AIDS Clinical Trial Group from the United States,UNAIDS, and the secretaries of the Department of Health and theDepartment of Science and Technology among others. Theconference has the following objectives:

1. To provide a venue for sharing current, cutting-edgestrategies in the prevention and control of HIV, including novelapproaches such as test-and-treat, detection of acute HIVpatients, and opt-out strategies to see if these may beimplemented in the Philippines;

2. To bring together the different local stake holders in HIVincluding the academe, the Department of Health, theDepartment of Science and Technology, and with theparticipation of international universities that have experiencein HIV/AIDS research, engage in dialogue regarding thecurrent emergency situation and find innovative strategies inreversing the nascent HIV/AIDS epidemic;

3. To engage and invest national leaders with the seriousness ofthe current crisis in order to craft a legislative agenda insupport of more efficient and effective care for persons livingwith HIV in the Philippines.
