We cordially invite you to join us in the conference entitled "The Philippine HIV/AIDS Epidemic: A Call to Action" on May 2, 2010 from 8:00 am to 4:15 pm at Function Room 1 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Metro Manila organized by the Philippine Society of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. The conference is an official preconvention activity of the 40th Philippine College of Physicians annual convention with the theme "Medicine Beyond Medicine: Traversing Boundaries, Crossing Borders." It will feature leading world experts in HIV/AIDS, including directors of the AIDS Clinical Trial Group from the United States, UNAIDS, and the secretaries of the Department of Health and the Department of Science and Technology among others. The conference has the following objectives: 1. To provide a venue for sharing current, cutting-edge strategies in the prevention and control of HIV, including novel approaches such as test-and-treat, detection of acute HIV patients, and opt-out strategies to see if these may be implemented in the Philippines; 2. To bring together the different local stake holders in HIV including the academe, the Department of Health, the Department of Science and Technology, and with the participation of international universities that have experience in HIV/AIDS research, engage in dialogue regarding the current emergency situation and find innovative strategies in reversing the nascent HIV/AIDS epidemic; 3. To engage and invest national leaders with the seriousness of the current crisis in order to craft a legislative agenda in support of more efficient and effective care for persons living with HIV in the Philippines.
