Essay writing – Cause and effect
EFFECTS OF PARENTS’ DIVORCE ON THEIR CHILDREN
Topic: Write a cause and/or effect essay about the effects of parents’ divorce on
their children.
Outline:
1. Introduction:
Thesis statement: Instead, it is their children that are affected emotionally,
financially and socially by the divorce.
2. Body:
−Emotionally
− Financially
− Socially
3. Conclusion: Obviously, children suffer just as much as their parents do in
terms of emotion, finance and sociality when marriages fall apart.
VERSION 1:
When a couple love each other enough to decide to get married and have children,
they must be the two happiest people in the world. However, if the marriage does not go
well and come to an end, they are probably not the ones who suffer the most. Instead, it is
their children that are affected emotionally, financially and socially by the divorce.
First and foremost, once parents are no longer with each other, their children of
course will have a hard time facing the truth emotionally. The younger the children, the
more difficult it will be on them. Questions like “Mom and Dad don’t love each other
anymore, what about me?”, “Am I the cause?” or “Why does this happen to me?” keeprepeating in their minds and breaking their hearts. In some case, the divorce involves
relocating of one of the parents along with the children. Adjusting to new houses, schools,
friends, consequently, adds up to the several problems children of divorcing parents are
expected to cope with. Seriously affected by this sudden event, some sensitive kids may
even suffer from anxiety, depression and sleeplessness.
