NFT’s and Gaming:Gamifying Social Good
Jehan Chuco-Founder, Social Alpha Foundation
Founder, Ethereum HK MeetupManaging Partner, Kenetic
Problem: Why do we continue to do things we know to be bad for us as a society?
Answer: In the absence of long-term greater good as an incentive, short-term incentives govern action.
Proposal: Can tokenisation and gamification align incentives for social good?
Examples- AIA: Vitality app model- ICRISAT – Int’l Crops
Research Institute for Semi-arid Tropics promotion of more sustainable crops
- Recycling of waste materials – gain points to recycle
- Carbon credits for making sustainable choices
Key Factors in Gamification- Aspirational Loop- Economy- Identity- Scarcity- Physicality- Location- Time- Competition- Monitoring
Key Focus Areas- Short-term incentivization and behavior modification- Perception/content – provides richer surface to anchor meta
information; provide greater visibility of data/consequences to inform decisions
- Mobile phone interaction w/ emphasis on Augmented Reality features (ie. Pokemon Go)
- Interoperability of systems to create larger overlapping economies of value (ex. Sustainability tokens can be redeemed from non-sustainability counterparties)
Call to Action: Propose a Project
- Tokenisation for social impact ideas- Emphasis on how practical, near-term incentivisation mechanisms
can motivate us to do better as people

Reminder: Don’t lose sight of the greater good. If we are not in blockchain to make the world a better place, then we are missing the greatest opportunity of our industry.
