Faction carnivalWe can change a lot of things, but we cant change the weather!Having decided after much angst, as we are aware that many of you arrange time off work tocome and cheer, to postpone the carnival, I must say Im glad the weather was as bad aspredicted.

The carnival will now be held onTuesday 17thSeptember (weather permitting). The childrenwill gather outside the sports shed at 8.45 to march across together at 8.55. Could the Kindyparents please bring your children straight to the front of the school to meet Mrs Miller at thismuster point.

Please remember to provide your children with hats, sunscreen, water, and snacks. Lunchorders can still be made with the P&C offering a sausage sizzle, rolls and drinks. Coffee, cakesand cold drinks are available through out the morning. Please remember to leave the dog athome.

Communication from school to homeWe always try our best to keep you informed of upcoming activities and support needed at

school, this information often comes as a note via your children. Please ensure that you checkyour childrens bags regularly so that you are informed and your children dont miss out on thingsas they do not have the required materials or accounts have not been paid.

Cyber safetyCyber bullying and the inappropriate use of social media is a serious issue in the community. Ihave included a few tips to assist you in ensuring your child is using social media safely:

1. Be aware of the social media accounts your child is utilising. (Some examples are: KIK,Instgram, Facebook, Snap Chat, Flickr, Tumblr, Skype, Vine, Twitter, Google+, Wayn.These are all social media sites that are apps for ipods, iphones, ipads and look like games.)

2. Parents should access accounts to monitor what your child is posting and viewing.3. Play a constant role in your childs social media life. Spend time online with your child.

4. If you allow your child to use chat rooms limit the time and encourage use of moderated chatrooms.

5. Be very specific about what information your child can give out on line.6. Remind children not to give their password out to anyone.7. Remind children not to add people to their buddies list unless they know who they are.8. Remind children not to accept webcam invites from people you dont know.9. Be aware that students use fake names to access accounts so that parents cant monitor

their usage.10. Put the computer in a public place.

Room 2- Liz Smith

The children continue to be rather noisy, happy, industrious little bees. Their skill level,knowledge and love of learning is developing every day. A reminder to parents that our

class assembly will be next Wednesday, please make a real effort to attend.

Library day, as it has been all year, is a Wednesday.

Please return Reading Folders on a Friday.

Room 1 - Lisa Miller

How quick another two weeks have gone by! At the moment

we are busy decorating our undercover area to look like an

aviary in the zoo. We have made birds and butterflies andadded them to the background we already painted with the

Pre-primaries. It is a work in progress so there is quite a bit

to be added yet.

Our footprint mystery still continues with more evidence be-

ing collected and collated all the time. Last week we exam-

ined closely the fur we found and brainstormed interesting

words to describe how it felt as well as graphing our hair

colours.

Room 3- Bev Lane

Over the last fortnight we have been writing some wonderful stories together, learning to

write reports, finding out that the letter e is a very busy letter, subtracting numbers,

counting to 100 and back and learning how many different ways we can make a dollar for

Milo. We all enjoyed the drumming incursion this afternoon.

Arlo, Tori and Sabah all busy working on Handas Surprise activities. The

story maps the class did earlier in the week are truly impressive.

Room 5 - Chris John

Homework for Room 5 last week was to teach

others in a small group a skill of their choice

through a clear and concise procedure. Some of

the skills taught included playing guitar chords,

throwing and catching, origami, magic tricks,

drawing and dancing. Weve also been busy identifying the properties of the

different states of matter as we interacted with substances such as Blutak, hair gel, sponges, flour and aerosol

sprays to decide if they were a solid, liquid or gas. Easily the most confusing (and messiest) subject was the

shaving cream which is still sparking healthy debate between students days after the investigation.

Room 7- Brent Snook

It is a busy time in Room 7 at the moment

with practicing for Sports Carnival, learning

to surf and working on our Technology

and Enterprise Angry Birds project. We are

having a great time at surfing, experiencing

both favourable and unfavourable

conditions. While surfing we have also

been learning about the dangers of the beach

as well as picking the perfect wave to ride!

We are hoping for some good clean

conditions for our last few weeks.

Room 4 -Rochelle Reeves

Room 4 has been learning about the Water Cycle and we are making a mural on the back wall of our

classroom to show this. We have been writing stories about drips for the Pre-primary class. This has inspired

us to present them as books.In Maths we have been doing addition, subtraction and multiplication sums and working very hard at these.

Students have been bringing in and sharing their favourite poems with the class. We have designed some

place value trading games to teach ourselves place value.

Each morning for fitness we have been practicing for the sports carnival and we have started to read the

second book in The Floods series.

In Art we have been making our wings and our hats for the Fremantle Festival. The Year 3s have been

practising in choir for the residents at Hillcrest and we have been learning a cup song from Pitch Perfect.

The Year 2s have been working with Miss Appleyard and creating illustrations through imagery with the

story Possum Magic by Mem Fox.

We have been using checklists to make our daily writing more interesting and help with our editing.

In music we have been learning the song Keep On.We have a little friend called George who has been visiting our class-mates houses and having lots of

adventures. We have enjoyed hearing about them and seeing some photos.

In Reading we have been having some interesting and fun English lessons with Mrs Parkes while Mrs

Baldey was away. We have illustrated a gorgeous book using the text from The Salamander Room by Anne

Mazer. What a busy and fun fortnight we have had.

Councillors ReportThe weather is still a little cold in the mornings so we will be selling milo at recess every Fridayfor term 3. The cost for a cup of nice warm milo is $1.00 and will go towards fundraising forour end of year camp.

Salaka African beat Drumming Incursion

For the second year in a row the children were enthralled by the sounds brought to our school courtesy ofour Ghanaian friends. The combination of funky drums, uplifting beats and a truly entertaining group of

performers is a fabulous cross-curricular learning opportunity for children of all ages.
