The 2016 iCivics Summer Camp was held at Gilbert Middle School on Friday, June 10.

The camp was free and open to students in Lexington District One. The theme of this

year’s summer camp was “The Electoral College.” The camp was led by three of the

district’s iCivics teachers – Mrs. Miriam Ma?hews from Gilbert Middle, Mrs. Janet

Reamy from Carolina Springs Middle, and Mrs. Melody Shafer from Meadow Glen

Middle. Students explored the electoral process and actually ran for the office of President of the United

States by playing the iCivics game Win the White House. The guest speaker for the camp was South Carolina

State Senator Katrina Shealy, who spoke to the students about her experiences running for poli�cal office. Stu-

dents who a?ended the camp from Gilbert Middle were Taylor Armstrong, Serria Ricard, Luke Taylor, and Wil-

liam Williamson.
