NEC Convention Update Our 40th annual NEC Convention is here! Speakers will begin arriving on Thursday, Vendors will be setting up on Thursday night, and our excitement level is growing! We look forward to celebrating our ruby anniversary with each of you.

Remember, the 40th Annual Convention will be held on the weekend of March 20-22, 2015 at the Sheraton Hartford South hotel in Rocky Hill CT. Celebrate our Ruby Anniversary by wearing something maroon or ruby red, especially at the Saturday banquet.

Convention Advertisement: Ted “P. T. Barnum” Coletti has done a phenomenal job promoting our convention! Have you seen the latest promo, the “50 Shades of NEC”? Thank you so much, Ted, for your dedication towards the success of our 40th anniversary celebration!

Convention Registration Table: The registration table will be located in the Rocky Hill Room where you will pick up your registration packet and your beautifully embroidered ruby red shirt. Walk-in attendees will be welcomed from Friday 10am – 8pm and on Saturday from 8am until 1pm. Our silent auction items will be displayed there, and will be open for bidding through the Sunday auction. PayPal: Great news! The NEC is now able to accept major credit cards at our registration table and at our huge Sunday auction. So bring your Visa, Master Card, Discover or American Express and leave your checkbook at home!

Hotel Registration: The Sheraton Hartford South is located at 100Capital Blvd., Rocky Hill, CT 06067. The convention special price booking is closed although the hotel has plenty of rooms available for walk-in attendees. Call 1-888-627-8263 to make your room reservation. Please mention that you are attending the Northeast Council of Aquarium Societies 2015 Convention. Speakers: Ariel Bornstein, Pam Chin, Mark Denaro, Mike Hellweg, Shane Linder, and Brian Perkins have between them prepared presentations on the beauty of Peru and its species, killifish and other species in Africa and South America, travelogues along the Rio Negro, the natural habitats of Loracariidae, two cichlid presentations, species suitable for nano tanks – there’s a great presentation for everyone! Hospitality Room: Steve Lundblad, owner of Wet Pet in Portland, Oregon, is this year’s hospitality chair. Steve has hosted the Hospitality Room at our 38th Annual Convention and we are very pleased that he will be joining us again this year! Steve always brings fun and raffle prizes to our Hospitality Room. Join Steve and hospitality chairs Janine and David Banks, in the second floor hospitality room.

Confirmed Vendors: Thanks to the hard work of Vendor Chair Nancy Villars/Hallgring, our vendor room is packed with 11 vendors, including Frank’s Aquarium, The Planted Tank Guru, South Central Cichlids, Your Fish Stuff, New Era, Harris in Wonderland, Aqua-Tech Co., Sally’s San Francisco Bay Brand, Cobalt, Amazonas Magazine, and Two Tank Amin’s Fish Bazaar.

Donors and Sponsors: We have four Gold sponsors this year – Wet Spot Tropicals and owner Steve Lundlad hosts our hospitality room; we also welcome Gold sponsors Central Aquatics, United Pet Group, and Amazonas. Our generous anonymous Silver Sponsor donated again for the third year, and we welcome Bronze sponsorships from again from Plecoworld.org and this year from ZooMed. As you can see, Barbara Romeo was very busy! We have donations from quite a few companies, including dry goods, live fish, and aquatic plants.

Room Sales: For the first time in convention history, the NEC is offering room sales! Vendor room sales rooms are located on the main floor close to the seminar rooms and the main vendor room. There are two room vendors this year, Bill Cole and Jim Cormier. Both are very accomplished breeders, so be sure to visit them. Club Tables: Club tables will be set up for Friday and Saturday for the display of upcoming auctions, membership forms, and sale of club related clothing and other items. On Saturday from 11am – 4pm, club members can sell fish and other items. These tables will be located in the hallway across from the Hartford and Rocky Hill Rooms. IGEES-Sanctioned Guppy Show: The Boston Guppy Club hosts this year’s show in the Hartford Room. We are expecting guppy pairs from around the world to be exhibited, and all the mail-in guppies will be auctioned off in the Sunday auction. You will be able to bid on these amazing pairs and bring them home with you!

Photo Contest: The judges will hold an open critique session at 11 pm on Friday night, open to all. Last year’s session was very well attended and enjoyed. Awards will be given at the Saturday breakfast, and the entries will be displayed in the Vendor Room on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Articles Competition: Awards for winning articles will be

presented at the Saturday breakfast, and articles will be displayed in the Vendor Room on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Breeder Participation Program and Exhibitor Competition: Awards for BPP and the NEC Exhibitor participants will be presented at the Saturday breakfast. Betty Mueller Honor: This prestigious lifetime award will be presented to this year’s recipient at the Saturday banquet. Who will our winner be?

Sunday Auction: Our huge Sunday auction opens at 7:30 am for registering lots; viewing is open from 9:30 – 10:30 am. The auction begins at 11am. This is a must-attend for quality fish, plants, inverts, and dry goods. Conservation: Come support The James J. White Memorial Conservation Fund silent auction. Our recipients are Conservation International (http://www.conservation.org/where/pages/indonesia.aspx) and the saltwater conservation recipient is OLAZUL – innovation for Marine Conservation

(http://olazul.org/ ). You may make monetary donations to conservation when you register for the convention if you wish, and make bids on the auction items. The auction closes at noon on Sunday in the Vendor Room.

Volunteer: Please consider volunteering to help out during our convention. There are so many ways in which you can enhance your convention experience by lending a helping hand! Help out during the Sunday auction by being a runner, assist in 50/50 raffles throughout the weekend, welcome a newcomer to our weekend celebration – volunteering is easy and is so rewarding! This law is not as extreme as laws enacted in the State of Maine, but it opens the door for copycat laws in other states. Aquarists should consult their local, state and government websites for info pertaining to each state they live in. Be aware of your rights to keep fish in your own state.
