Agenda - Purpose
2
• Present platform Architecture and general context
• Introduce a realistic scenario• Present functionalities of NGSW in the
context of the scenario• Summarize benefits

Demonstration Scenario
6
A scenario with real-world data was provided by Descartes (double ENS filing & SDMF messages), with Belgian Customs cooperation:• A Shipment from DHL, from Canada Halifax to Rotterdam
– One Consignment – 96 Cartons• Route of Goods: CA – BE – GB – DE – NL.
• Office of Entry: Belgium, Antwerp• Subsequent Offices of Entry:
– United Kingdom, Thamesport– Germany, Hamburg– The Netherlands, Rotterdam
• Double ENS Filing: From Forwarder and from Carrier (Hapag-Lloyd)

Requirements & Needs
7
• Authorities– Improved transport chain visibility – More Effective Risk Assessment– Seamless Data Consolidation & Validation– Less manual effort for Data Aggregation
• Carriers & Forwarders– Faster transport chains– Easier unified integration with more Authority
systems

Functionalities of NGSW: Message Quality Assurance
8
Container Number Validation & Dangerous Goods Info• In the Consignment view of the displayed ENS, the container
numbers are validated based on the ISO 6446 rules• A warning is displayed in case the rule requirements are not
satisfied• Reduced manual error-correction overhead
• For Dangerous Goods, the UNDG code is displayed for better risk assessment
• CRS also supports additional fields in relation to Dangerous Goods, allowing the extensibility of the model, therefore even better risk assessment capacity

Functionalities of NGSW: CSD and ENS integration
10
Integration of CSD status messages• “Green Lane” concept: CSD messages can be available 24 h
before loading (from Smart-CM project)• These messages are consolidated in the NGSW system• In the user interface, one can easily navigate from the SDMF
message that refers to a Container to the associated ENS and vice versa
• The NGSW implemented over the interoperability layer, offers a unified view of all the available data on the consignment
• In case of anomalies during the trip, customs can react promptly with appropriate actions

ENS and SDMF integration
11
ENS submission for a Consignment that
includes the Container
SDMF message from the relevant Container Security
Device

Functionalities of NGSW:AEO Status Check
12
AEO status check• The AEO status is updated and displayed at runtime,
to test integration of this data into risk analysis.• The EU online AEO database was used (for proof of
concept purposes).• Integration of data is transparent to the user.• ENS data view is enriched with the status of AEO.• Result: Better overview of the logistic chain.

Functionalities of NGSW: Dual filing of ENS Submissions
14
ENS Dashboard – Dual filing consolidation• NGSW allows dual filing: two different ENS
submissions may be provided (by Forwarder and by Carrier)
• NGSW provides the ENS Dashboard for facilitating the review and comparison of the dual filing in a single view
• Results in easier cross-validation and better risk analysis and assessment by the Customs

Benefits
17
• Next Generation Single Window– Data Consolidation (ENS Dashboard, CSD Messages, AEO, etc.)
• Improve Transport Chain visibility• More precise risk assessment
– Data Quality Assurance• Reduced Manual Correction Effort
• Interoperability Layer – Data Aggregation
• Connecting data from different sources with the least effort
– Data standardization (Common Framework - CRS)• A complete, unified, flexible data model, covering future needs

Outcomes of the implementation
18
• Certified chains and (customs) pre-release– Improve Transport Chain visibility for better risk assessment (AEO
Status)– Double ENS filing: two different perspectives of the ENS on the same
consignment– Include additional Dangerous Items data, to more effectively detect
risks • Connecting information and systems
– Improve Message Quality to reduce manual error-correction overhead– Enrich ENS message with additional sources of information for better
risk-assessment– Bringing information from different sources in a single space
