Next GenerationMCAS 2.0 - Math
Presented by Nicole MantvilleJanuary 20, 2017
Next Generation MCAS 2.0
MCAS 2.0 will be using the PARCC format and scoring
Next-generation tests are assessing students’ critical thinking skills & lookingfor student readiness for success in college or a career.
Some questions are reflective of the 8 mathematical practices (perseverance, attention to precision, reasoning, and constructing arguments, etc).
Questions may actually test content knowledge from previous grade levels. The assumption is that students should be competent in all prior yearknowledge.
Next Generation MCAS 2.0
Grade 7-8 Calculator on Day 2
Computer -Based for 8th grade
Multi-Part Questions
Multiple Select Choices
Universal Accommodations
Gr. 8: Computer-Based Testing
The test will be untimed.
Open Responses
Students will be asked to explain their work by typingand using equation editor.

All students, and all proctoring teachers, must know how tonavigate.
Gr. 8: Reference Sheets and Rulers
● 2 rulers are embedded in theCBT: a centimeter ruler and a1/8-inch ruler
● No handheld rulers are allowed
● Printed reference sheets areallowed
○ Reference sheets may beprinted from theDepartment’s website
Calculators Students may use calculatorsduring Session 2
Grade 7: a five-functioncalculator (i.e., a four-function calculator with asquare root key)
Grade 8 : a scientificcalculator
Eight Standards for Mathematical Practice:
1.Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
2.Reason abstractly and quantitatively
3.Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of
others
4.Model with mathematics
5.Use appropriate tools strategically
6.Attend to precision
7.Look for and make use of structure
8.Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
Multi-Part Questions● Questions with Part A and
Part B (possibly Part C andD).
● Combinations of multiplechoice and fill-in-blank, andshort answers question.
● Questions may have commonstandard, but may be asking2 different things.
● These questions are worthup to 2 points (0, 1, or 2).

on the computer-based tests or on the paper-based equivalent.
Universal Accessibility Features may be used by any student, including students with disabilities and ELL students:
Examples:
