An online tool called SmarterWX that’s rapidly being adopted by Councils and Infrastructure agencies to share the location and timing of planned works in order to collaborate where there may be overlaps. 3. View how maps and business data can interact with the City of Unley’s implementation of Power BI. 4. See a demonstration of the high resolution 3D digital model of the City of Unley.

Description: The City of West Torrens implemented Objective Connect to distribute development approvals and to create secure, private workspaces for the sharing of documents with project collaborators, service providers, external and internal customers. This session will include an overview of the improvements made processing development applications, using Objective ECM, Trapeze Desktop and Connect as well as other examples of document collaboration using Connect.

Introducing Our SpeakersNext Generation: Who’s Driving You There?

Alex Keay commenced with the City of Unley in May 2018. Prior to this, Alex was a Senior Project Officer with ICT & Digital Government at the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. From 2016-2018 Alex was project lead and SA Government Ambassador for GovHack, an international open data competition where local innovators re-use government open data to create winning concepts. Earlier, as Program Manager, eGovernment within the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Alex lead engagement activities across government for the sa.gov website and facilitated opportunities for collaborations between government, community and the local technology sector as co-lead for the inaugural D3 Digital Challenge initiative. Alex has also devoted 20 years to the Australian film and television industries working both in the independent production sector, and for key government agencies administering production investment applications and programs for script development support. Alex launched screen production company We’re Not Boys Productions with Peta Bulsara (Astbury) in 2014. The team have since co-produced hit comedy ABC Original iView web series Almost Midnight (2016) and the sit-com comedy pilot Heaps Good Hostel (2015) for SBS online.

Anya Anastasia Australia’s international queen of cabaret, diva of dramatic, and chanteuse of Festival glamour! Anya was this year’s cultural ambassador for Adelaide in the UK, an accolade that came with becoming the Made in Adelaide Edinburgh Award winner. Anastasia also took out 2 other awards this year, Winner of the Critics Choice, and Best Cabaret Weekly Awards. Best of the Fringe Adelaide Advertiser 2017 Award, Edinburgh Award recipient in Adelaide Fringe 2017, “The Voice” Pick of the Edinburgh Fringe Award, The 2016 Adelaide Fringe Weekly Award for Best Cabaret. Anya Anastasia is a sassy cabaret chanteuse with a vivid imagination, a ten-year history of creating genre defying works, organising events and festivals, and writing work for her own theatre, music and performance as a social commentator and activist. She has traversed the globe with her original songs and bold performance pieces appearing at festivals in Europe, around Australia and NZ. Winner Best Cabaret Adelaide Fringe Weekly, Nominated Best Cabaret Fringe World, taking home 5 star reviews from 2016 and 2017 Edinburgh Fringe and winning loyal audiences in every city she visits, Anastasia is a fresh force on the international cabaret scene. Anya Anastasia has just completed her 9th Season at the Adelaide Fringe.

Ben Cowley is the Leader of Systems and Technology at Yorke Peninsula Council. He has over 20 years’ experience working in IT, including roles at the Department for Correctional Services and Australian Submarine Corporation. His focus at Council is on using technology to improve business processes.

Chris James is President of Local Government Information Technology South Australia. Chris has been involved with this group of willing peers since the beginning of LGIT SA and is looking to help firmly establish the group to deliver value to member Councils and LG IT & IM professionals across the state.

Darren Stevens Focusing on a wide portfolio of ICT Systems Management, Innovation, Information Management and Project Delivery; Darren has become the driver of change at Port Pirie Regional Council within his role of ICT Manager. He has a number of success stories within the sector and as the Chairperson for the SA IT Vision User Group is committed to collaboration, information sharing and the promotion of regional ICT and Information Management service delivery.

Dermot Cussen commenced as the inaugural Director of the Stretton Centre in June 2015. Prior to his Stretton role, he spent 13 years in predecessors of the Department for Industry and Skills, primarily in industry and research engagement roles. Before joining the State Government, Dermot worked as an electrical engineer in the areas of product design, testing, development, commercialisation and application solutions. Dermot has an honours degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Trinity College Dublin.

Di Colls has been Team Leader Information Management at the City of West Torrens for over 10 years. Di’s aim is to improve the way in which we capture records and provide a more consistent approach to managing information. The transition to Objective ECM is a challenging but exciting project that will provide a more seamless and consistent approach to managing records across Council.

Georgie Cassar has been a geospatial professional for 30 years, working in SA Local Government for the last 20. Currently and for the last 11 years, Georgie has been working at the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. Georgie helps a variety of work areas to integrate spatial data and analysis into their tasks. These involve customising applications for mobile access, web mapping, open data and regular desktop mapping and analysis. Georgie also represents Local Government on the SA Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute Committee and was awarded the SA Women in Spatial award in 2017 by the institute.

Jason McGillivray joined DPTI in 2016 as a solution architect within the Customer and Information Services division providing information system strategy and solution design. In early 2018 he joined the Planning Reform as a Solution Architect for ePlanning. Jason is an experienced architect with over 20 years across government, insurance, telecommunications, consulting and lending. Jason is passionate about improving public services through the application of modern, integrated digital services.

Laura Fischetti and her team provide advice and guidance to the organisation on all aspects of information management. Laura began her career at the City of Tea Tree Gully as a Records Management Officer and was soon promoted to the role of Records Management Administrator. In 2005 Laura took on her first leadership role as the Information Management Team leader at the City of Unley, where she established a framework for effective records and archive management and in 2007 moved to the City of Salisbury to lead their information management function. Laura championed the implementation of maintaining complete, accurate and reliable corporate information and designed a hard copy storage solution that has inspired many other Information Management Professionals in the Local Government Sector. This accomplishment along with her enthusiasm to map records management best practice to business processes recognised the City of Salisbury as one of the first Local Government organisations in South Australia to receive GDS 21 accreditation. Laura’s currently working on establishing a data analytics function within the information management team.

Leanne Hodge joined the City of Port Adelaide Enfield in March 2018 as a Geographic Information Systems Officer. She has accumulated a wealth of experience over the past 9 years working in Local Government, including integration, analysis, application customisation and providing geospatial solutions to a variety of stakeholders. She is passionate about extending the reach of GIS through easy to use web apps and open data.

Lisa McAskill is an experienced presenter with a 30 year career spanning the television, modelling, film and training industries. She is probably best known for her 14year role as a presenter on Channel 9’s Postcards program and now runs a successful media mentoring and training business.

Liz Bailey is the IT Application Support Coordinator with the City of West Torrens where she is responsible for the overall system and database administration / support of several key corporate applications. Liz has more than 20 years’ experience in Local Government in both Administration and IT with the past 13 years in Information Technology at West Torrens. Her experience in Local Government allows her to bring a wealth of knowledge and business understanding to her position where she assists the staff to take advantage of new and emerging technologies.

Mark Henderson has been advising Local Government in Australia and the UK since 2002 and joined KelledyJones in January 2018 to drive expertise in the areas of Property and Commercial. Mark has been involved in a number of projects for Local Government, including the OneCard Library scheme, the expansion of the purple pipe network, the implementation of the Water Industry Act, joint development of civic facilities and innovative funding models for infrastructure projects. In addition to his legal qualifications, Mark holds a Bachelor of Science (Mathematical and Computer Sciences) and has worked in network administration in an education institution. He has used this experience to incorporate practical knowledge into his advice to clients working in ICT, software development and large-scale IT system implementation. Mark was listed in Doyles Guide’s list of Leading Property & Real Estate Lawyers in South Australia in 2017.

Nick Falkner Dr Nick Falkner is inaugural Director of the University of Adelaide’s Australian Smart Cities Consortium, which brings together more than 50 academics from each faculty across the University. The Consortium is working with State and Local Government, industry, and entrepreneurs, to address many of the challenges of the modern city. An award-winning computer science academic, Associate Professor Falkner, took the long road to academia, with more than a decade spent in the computing industry and as a professional winemaker before returning to university and completing his PhD in Computer Science. He now conducts research into computer network design and development, network security, privacy preservation, the Internet of Things and educational research.

Owen Brandt leads the LiveTiles Asia Pacific Business. Owen is a senior leadership figure in the technology industry and works closely with clients to help them achieve success through their IT and employee experience strategies. Owen is also responsible for the strategic LiveTiles & Microsoft alliance across the region, as well as LiveTiles’ partnerships with advisory firms, system integrators and digital agencies and many others. Supremely goal orientated, organised and task focused, with strong numerical and analytical skills. Owen’s experience and background is in enterprise software solutions. A self-starter by nature, Owen determines priorities and implement the planning necessary to achieve objectives and respond positively to all challenges and change. LiveTiles empowers companies to surface and integrate any application, data or resource into a unified digital landscape.

Peter Kiley has worked in the IT Industry for over 30 years after starting his career as a COBOL programmer. After working as System Analyst and Systems Development Manager at ASC and Ausbulk, he joined City of Port Adelaide Enfield in 2001 as Corporate Information Manager. The Corporate Information section includes Information Technology, Geographic Information Systems and Information Management.

Ralph Leonard is the CEO of SABRENet Ltd, the not-for-profit public company that operates the South Australian Broadband Research and Education Network. He has had an extensive career in the application of ICT for education and the development of broadband policy in government. Ralph is a Fellow of the Australian Council for Computers in Education and a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society. He was a Board Member of the International Society for Technology in Education in 2007 2011. In his role as CEO of SABRENet since 2012, Ralph has driven the expansion of the SABRENet network which now has 400km of fibre cable connecting over 200 sites across the Adelaide Metropolitan Region.

Russell Taylor is responsible for the service delivery of infrastructure and applications. Russell has many years’ experience in Local Government and has highly developed domain knowledge with particular expertise in the TechnologyOne ERP suite. Russell has a deep interest in data and using technology to address urban challenges and to support business transformation. He was a board member of the Dogs and Cats Online project and is the technical lead for the Customer Centric Experience project. For the last 12 months, he has led a project team on a journey to create City of Charles Sturt’s first Smart City Plan (2018-2025).

Ryan Hill has worked in the IT industry for over 15 years and has had extensive experience in a variety of IT roles. The current role of Manager Information Technology Services is responsible for the operational and strategic delivery of IT Services to Alexandrina Council and the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority. The role also encompasses Information Management at Alexandrina Council. Ryan is an experienced business technology leader, with substantial experience and proven track record in developing and delivering business improvements, efficiency gains and innovative solutions.

Shane Devereaux is an IT Professional with over 30+ years’ experience working across a variety of business sectors and research organisations, these include Local Government, Pharmaceuticals, Oil and Gas and Software vendors. He has been fortunate to have opportunities to work in the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia in working across enterprise systems, with recent years focused in Service Design, Service Operations and Service Management. A notable part of Shane’s experience has been his appointment into new roles that required the establishment of ICT Units or provision of strong team management and strategic leadership where it has not existed before. The first of these was in Local Government and was with the Mid Western Regional Council in Mudgee. The second was to create a small IT Function for an Australian and International NGO and the third was with Frontier Software managing a small team of people with deep technology skills but lacking team cohesion, culture and vision. It was a role he was especially proud of turning around and he received Employee of the Year in his first year at Frontier.

Steve Sammartino Steve wrote his first lines of computer code at age 10. He had his first startup at age 12 – an organic egg farm before the words “organic” or “startup” had been invented! He even started a clothing business part time and managed to build up the business to a point where he sold it. After completing studies in Economics and Finance at University he worked in multiple Fortune 500 companies including Proctor & Gamble, SAB Miller, Kimberly Clark, Mondelez (Kraft / Cadbury), WPP (the world’s biggest media company). He held many senior positions culminating in Directorships before decided to revert to his true passion for technology. Steve has had multiple technology startups and he launched one of the first ‘Sharing Economy’ startups Rentoid.com, before Uber or Airbnb. He now invests in emerging technologies and has multiple advisory board positions in startups involved in a variety of disruptive technologies across the Airline Industry, Automotive, Real Estate & Co-working, Internet of things, Quantified Self, Mobile applications, and 3D Printing technologies. Steve is heavily involved in the startup scene in Shanghai, China. He recently built a full-size driveable Lego car from 500,000 pieces and crowd funded the project on Twitter. He also put a toy space ship into earth orbit for under $2000. His debut book, The Great Fragmentation is a technology strategy manifesto for the modern age. In 2017 Steve published his second book, The Lessons School Forgot, How to hack your way through the technology revolution. A media commentator on technology and the future, Steve is a regular on the ABC and has also been featured on the BBC, The Smithsonian Institute, The Discovery Channel, Mashable, Wired, The LA times, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and even had documentaries made about his projects.

Steve Yates has been involved in the Local Government GIS space for over 11 years and cut his geospatial teeth in the LIDAR and Aerial Imagery industry before that. Throughout Steve’s time in the GIS industry he has involved himself in a myriad of systems and solutions since the early days of Eview through to Dekho, Geocortex and eventually Intramaps. He has seen the fall of ESRI’s ArcIMS, the rise of ESRI’s ArcGIS Server and the introduction and maturing of ESRI’s ArcGIS Portal. The maturing of Business Intelligence platforms such as PowerBI are now converging the analytics space between traditional GIS and data visualization. Steve is currently exploring this remarkable application of data for the City of Unley as they move forward to a data-driven future and implementation of the Digital Unley Strategy.

Tony Leviston Tony has recently commenced as Principal Archivist at State Records South Australia after moving to Adelaide four years ago. He has worked for the Public Record Office of Victoria and State Records NSW as well as consulting in records and digital information management. Tony teaches Records Management at UniSA and was Vice President of the Australian Society of Archivists between 2015 and 2017. He is co-convenor for the Australian Society of Archivists national conference to be held in Adelaide in October 2019.

Troy Fountain joined DPTI in 2016 after 8 years at the City of Burnside undertaking assessments, policy work and strategic planning. Troy is currently employed as a Senior Planning Officer within the ePlanning team at DPTI. His role involves using his planning knowledge and experience to develop the online delivery of planning services as key component of the South Australian Planning Reforms. Troy has a thorough knowledge of the relevant legislation and is passionate about electronic systems, efficiency, machine learning, user experience and the presentation of this information to stakeholders.

Yvonne Sears is a qualified and experienced Privacy professional in Australia. Recently, Yvonne was named BCI Institute’s “2018 Continuity and Resilience Consultant” for Australasia and is now shortlisted for the Global Award. Yvonne has a Masters degree in Information Law (covering data protection, copyright and FOI) and a Masters in Information Security and Computer Crime. She has spent the last 18+ years working in Information Security, Privacy, Risk, Governance and Business Continuity and has certified and recertified over 19 organisations to ISO27001 Information Security Standard and is an advocate for implementing pragmatic solutions that benefit organisations in the long term.
