Bench Tips By Brad Smith
FIND THE BALANCE POINT—With odd-shaped pendants or earrings it’s often difficult to find the right place to attach a bail or loop so that the piece is balanced and hangs straight. A quick way to make a tool for this is to modify a set of tweezers. Any set of tweezers will work. Spread the tips, sharpen them with a file, and bend the tips at a right angle to point towards each other. To use the tool suspend the pendant or earring between two sharp points to see how it will hang.

May already!?
I’m looking forward to another great month with the club as we continue to make improvements and garner interest in the club. A quick shout-out to all those that came for the shop clean-up! It looks fantastic, so let’s all make sure we are doing our part to keep it that way.
As we talked about at the meeting in April, our May meeting is going to have a Silent Auction. Bring a friend, a donation, and funds for purchasing that piece you just can’t live without. Can’t wait to see everyone there!

BIRTHSTONE COLOR Emeralds, like aquamarine, are a form of the mineral beryl.
Perhaps you recall The Emerald City in “The Wizard of Oz,” named for the vibrant, scintillating greens of this popular gem.
The finest emeralds have a rich green color, sometimes touched with a hint of blue, of intriguing translucence, depth, and clarity.
FACTS & FOLKLORE The May birthstone, the emerald, was a favorite gem of Cleopatra and Catherine the Great.
It has long been associated with fertility, rebirth, and love.
In the 1700s, powdered emeralds were sold by chemists to help relieve pain.
Ancient Romans went so far as to dedicate this stone to Venus, the goddess of love and beauty.
Today, it is thought that emeralds signify wisdom, growth, and patience.
Wearing an emerald may help to strengthen your memory. If you dream of buying an emerald, someone you trust may deceive you.
