Next City is a non-profit media organization dedicated to connecting cities and informing the people working to improve them. We achieve this mission through our series of weekly in-depth articles, Forefront; our daily blog; and events around the country.

Each year, Vanguard gathers a group of the country’s brightest young urban leaders and alumni from past Vanguard classes to discuss the state of the urban renewal movement. Hailing from dozens of cities and representing diverse backgrounds, these community organizers, environmental justice advocates, entrepreneurs, government officials and others share a dedication to improving cities and fostering a network of advocates.

After hosting Vanguard conferences in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and St. Louis, Next City presents this year’s conference in Cleveland, where a host committee of urban leaders has played an integral role in shaping the event.
