• Work is progressing through 4 ‘interest groups’– Technology Interest Group – Requirements Interest Group– Spectrum Interest Group– Institutional matters

ICAO ACP WG-C outcome
• WG-C (April) started examining a range of possible future communications technologies
• Several satellite communications systems were presented– BGAN, SDLS, Connexion by Boeing
• Work is progressing to identify candidate systems based on a set of criteria

Recall Business Aspects
• A ‘new’ Satellite communications system could bring benefits to aviation if it is at an ‘acceptable cost’
• It will need to get ‘buy-in’ from a range of Stakeholders– airspace users, ATS providers,
Communications Service providers, Satellite Service providers, Manufacturing Industry

Meeting the requirements
• Industry seem to be developing systems that are designed to meet safety-related communications
• Dialogue needs to take place to ensure that the service meets the requirements– need to have a full and frank exchange of
information whilst meeting business objectives

• Eurocontrol will continue to work with all Stakeholders to ensure future satellite communication services meet the requirements
• Launching new activity through calls for tender
