BROCKTON
A jury found 24-year-old Laurence Bynum Harris
guilty of first-degree murder Thursday, more
than four years after he told police he hit his
boyfriend over the head with a hammer and
stabbed him 20 times in a bus terminal parking
garage.
Bynum Harris was sentenced to life in prison
without parole in Brockton Superior Court after
jurors returned from more than two days of
deliberation with the verdict, according to the
court clerk’s office.
Bynum Harris, formerly of 35 West St., No. 2,
Brockton, had been held without bail since his
arrest following the killing, which took place in
the Brockton Area Transit Authority parking
garage on Commercial Street shortly after
midnight on Aug. 12, 2007.
The victim, Claudio Montrond of Brockton, who
like Bynum Harris was 20 at the time of the
killing, had a prior intimate relationship with
Bynum Harris, authorities said.
Lewis Armistead Jr., prosecuted the case, and
the judge was Barbara Dortch-Okara. Bynum Harris was represented by John F. Palmer of Boston.
