balls to win, luckily we only allowed them to get 3 runs leading us to win the final. It was a brilliant team effort and we all enjoyed our day of cricket.’

Our victorious Year 5 Girls team- County Champions!

‘Our Year 5 boys also reached the finals, and against tough opposition, represented the school very well indeed. They finished 5th overall- well done boys.’

Year 2 visit to Bishops Wood Year 2 had an amazing trip to Bishops Wood investigating habitats and identifying the animals and plants that live there. The children had a go at pond dipping, meadow sweeping, tree rubbing and found out about insects compound lenses, by trying on a pair of special glasses. The children really enjoyed their outdoor learning experience and came face to face with a variety of wild animals, including a Great Crested Newt! One of the highlights was a picnic lunch in the shade of the trees. It was lovely seeing the children applying their scientific knowledge and supporting each other in a variety of tasks. The excitement of discovery at Bishops Wood

Goodbye Year 6 Wow! What a fantastic Leavers’ Gala we were treated to last night by the children in

Year 6. Murder at Magpie Manor gave us a mix of humour, great singing and energetic dancing, demonstrating the confidence and articulation of the children- they truly were a credit to the school and to themselves.

What a cast!

By the time you read this this afternoon, the Year 6 children will have had their Leavers’ Assembly. An emotional time, we were able to celebrate their many achievements, wishing them the very best of luck as they move onto high school. Throughout their seven years at Somers Park they have been a fantastic group of children, who have offered a great deal to the school. They have all grown to be wonderful young people, who we are extremely proud to say are Somers Park graduates and as parents you should be immensely proud of all they have achieved. We wish them well and hope they will keep in touch to let us know how they are getting on. Thank you also, to the parents of Year 6; some of which have been with us for a long time. We are grateful for everything you have done to support our school.

It leaves us to say, thank you very much for your continued support of our school and your generosity with your end of term thanks, good wishes and kind gifts. The teachers are very appreciative.

Have a super summer and we look forward to seeing you all upon our return on Tuesday 3rd September.

Have a fantastic break!

Best wishes Chris Hansen and Byron Williams

Friends of Somers Park (FOSP) Annual Review

Summer Fayre FOSP held our annual Summer Fayre last Saturday and there was a great turnout with good weather. Thank you to Mr Hansen, Mr Williams, staff and parent volunteers who helped on the day – you were brilliant! We hope everyone enjoyed themselves (especially those who managed to soak Mr Hansen). The bunting and jam jar entries were incredible. Congratulations to the competition winners:

What have we done this year? Thank you all for your support this academic year. We have organised discos, curry and quiz nights, film nights, cake sales, uniform sales to name just a few. We have raised just

over £6,000 which has gone to fund the great library renovation, contributed to pupil enrichment visits, leavers gifts, seasonal visitor gifts for all children, new playground signs and event shelters. We organise all of this, including the summer fayre, with a committee of only approximately 6 parents out of a school of just over 400 children.

FOSP Committee The FOSP Annual General Meeting will be held in October and all of the committee positions

are up for election (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer) and a new Trustee. We are seeking a new Chair as the position becomes vacant in October. If you feel you’ve got what it takes to help organise the committee and run some great fundraising events for the school then we’d love to hear from you! If you are interested in any of the positions, then please e-mail: [email protected], catch us in the playground or let the office know. Our Treasurer has 1 more year left at the school and we want to find her successor this year to give the opportunity for a shadow year before handing over the reins. Also, to ensure that we have a balanced committee with parent reps, we are seeking 2 parents from each school year to be part of the committee. We meet once a month from 7-8pm (most likely to be on the first Tuesday of each month) at school. Being part of FOSP is incredibly rewarding and the committee is a lovely bunch of parents. We’re all very passionate about the school and doing our bit to help raise much needed funds. Please join the committee and help us raise invaluable funds for our brilliant school. Let’s help Somers Park School and our children shine! Have a fabulous summer. Vikki Atkinson FOSP Chair
