May 2018 Happy Last PTA letter of the school year! It has been such a great year for our school and PTA. We are looking forward to some exciting changes for next year and already planning ahead. Please come join our team and help us make our school even more awesome. Though you may not be ready to chair a position, you can always learn more about it by becoming a co-chair or assistant chair or just letting the chair know you would love to help out and learn more. Contact anyone on the Exec board with questions. We are almost always scrambling to find people to help on those "one time" volunteer jobs that everyone says they will help out with, but we would love to see those sign up genius forms fill out quicker next year. If you think there is a better way to get the word out, please let us know because our Communications crew and Volunteer Coordinator have tried every way they can think of. We were so excited when one of our own Laurie Skog won Volunteer of the Year for the School- way to go Laurie! She and her team worked so hard to make ICF a success this year and all the work you do in the classroom, planning parties, decorating, etc. is so appreciated. We can't wait for ICF next year. She is already planning and ICF will now be held in October so let her know if you can help! PTA does all of the planning and funding for ICF so it's a major task, but it is one of our most popular and anticipated programs. We also announced PTA's volunteer of the year last week -the Math Superstars Team. This team works so hard putting in long hours, week after week grading worksheets and handing out prizes. Andrea and Karen who filled in last minute to chair this year have done a great job to keep that program going strong and Shilpa and Priya have agreed to take it over for next year. They plan to review the process, so let them know of any ideas that you might have. That being said, we are so thankful for all the volunteers at the school. The homeroom parents, the Thursday folder people, the copy helpers, the various committee members and on and on. I know Staff Appreciation has been swamped with generosity from our parents this year and the Field Day and Gallery Night Committee are working overtime lately getting these end of the year events together Yearbooks have arrived and will be delivered later this month to those who pre-ordered. Make sure you get yours. You can still order online until May 5th. If you can't remember if you ordered one you can check on the Balfour Website. We still need someone to be the main Yearbook coordinator next year. I got a sneak peek and they are awesome!! Thanks Thuy H. Thanks to Rosie for stepping up to help with Movie Night last week and all the other wonderful volunteers who showed and made that evening a success. Looks like we need to order even more Pizza and cookies next time and yes, we need to start making popcorn even EARLIER. We'd love to have your help. Gallery Night is coming up and we are so excited about the silent auction and activities that our Gallery Night Committee has put together. Please come support them, enjoy some food from the Food Trucks and a tasty treat from Kona Ice. There are going to be some great deals available. I'm excited to see all of the art on display by the students. It's Field Trip Season, just a reminder that PTA funds 100% of all field trips for the school. Also, Field Day is coming up May 23rd, PTA pays for all field trip supplies and the inflatables. PTA also pays for the 4th and 5th grade to enjoy a rock wall at the end of the school year. This event is very expensive, so we only have it every other year, so your child will get to do either do it as a 4th grader or a 5th grader. My kids are 4th graders and this is an "ON" year for the rock wall. Staff Appreciation AND our wonderful Homeroom Parents have some great stuff planned for Teacher Appreciation Week. The staff appreciation committee, homeroom parents and all the copy and Thursday folder helpers have done so much for the staff all year and we truly appreciate everyone's support. Last but not least thank you to all this year’s Executive Board (Susan Curp – President, Rasna Kukreja – Vice President (2 nd year), Indulekha – Secretary (2 nd year), Jennifer Brown – Treasurer (2 nd year), Rosie Flores – Communications, Susan Muston – Programs (2 nd year), Susan Menchaca – Special Events, Mansi Acharya – Fundraising, Thuy Le – Membership, and Sheetal Gujarathi – Paraliamentarian) for all their hard work. It was a pleasure being on this team and working with all of you. I also want to say congrats to the 2018 -2019 Executive Board. I am excited about next year and know we will work well together to make a difference at England next year. To all the England families and volunteers, thank you for your support this year.
