Wear it Pink day!

We raised £18.64 On Friday 21st October, Greenwood School held a dress down day, to raise awareness and funds, for the Breast Cancer Now charity. All staff and pupils were encouraged to wear something pink for the day. We had pink socks, pink flowers, pink tights and a pink tutu!

Thank You to all staff and pupils in raising awareness for a great cause and letting

yourself get

Ben is a local boy with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne is a muscle wasting disease with no current cure.

The pupils of Greenwood School decided that they would donate the £80 raised

from our annual summer fete to the For Ben, For All cause.

Ben’s parents came in to collect the funds and tell us a bit about Ben and his condition. It was a very worthwhile and emotional visit.

KS3 and x group artists are working in our woods this year exploring and utilising the natural environment in their work. Our Horizon 20;20 project, in partnership with Hampshire Cultural Trust, brings 4 years of funding for arts based work. Students are currently working hard to create their own creative outdoor space to work in. This includes designing a shelter and bridge which they will be constructing with our resident artist, Kate Hadley. As well as outdoor art installations, Kate also specialises in drama and vocal work which has engaged students and exposed some great talent! Year 11 students have the opportunity to be part of an art trip to Southampton Art Gallery in December which is funded by the Horizon20;20 project. We will be viewing "The British Art Show 8" exhibition and taking part in a workshop inspired by our experience.

Lest we forget… Once again our pupils were respectful and proud on Remembrance Day 2016. Crosses were made and positioned in our quiet area. In Art, pupils shared the names of fallen or surviving relatives, which were then painted onto an installation and placed near the crosses. Pupils maintained the silence, as we watched the BBC live broadcast and then followed Dominic into the quiet quadrangle for a short remembrance service. Poems were read aloud by various pupils, including one written by a year 11 pupil. Pupils from X Group participated with a display of work, celebrating animals that have been used in war times.

BEAULIEU TO BUCKLER’S HARD:

NEW FOREST WALK

On Friday the 14th of November, 16 pupils

and a few energetic staff, set off for our

annual ramble to raise awareness about

Children in Need.

It was a beautiful, sunny and crisp autumn day and ideal for a long walk. We

parked in Beaulieu, a charming village whose recorded history began in the early

13th Century with the foundation of the Cistercian Abbey, and started out on the

picturesque riverside walk through the Beaulieu Estate to Bucklers Hard and back.

Everyone managed a really good pace on this walk and we managed to complete

the 4.5 mile round trip in about an hour and a half.

Those walking were then treated to a fantastic BBQ on our return to school.

Here’s looking forward to the next walk!

Animal News

I am pleased to say that the animals have been

thriving since their arrival at Greenwood.

The pupils have all shown them a lot of respect and

have quickly learnt the ropes for feeding, cleaning,

grooming and generally caring for them.

I am pleased to report that the ducks have been particularly productive. On average

they have produced about 30 -40 eggs a week. This in turn has meant a huge

financial saving for the Food Tech classes where the eggs end up every day. Even

this week when the temperature dipped below zero the ducks have still been laying.

Zeus and Stan the goats have put on weight and grown a cashmere layer to keep

themselves well insulated from the cold. They love playing chase with the pupils

and their antics are always making us laugh.
