Thank you to the P&C and our wonderful school community for funding two of the new boards. The students will benefit greatly from this new technology. If your child comes home talking about Penny Punctuation or demonstrating special Kung Fu punctuation moves it means they have been learning the first steps in the Big Write program. This year the program will be incorporated into all classes K-6. It will complement the teaching of writing that is already occurring in classrooms. Grandparents Day We are inviting all of our grandparents to visit our school on Wednesday 21 st March. At 10:30 grandparents are welcome to visit their grandchildren in their classrooms. As it is World Poetry Day we are asking grandparents to bring along a poem they might enjoy sharing with their grandchild or their grandchild’s class. At 10:55 grandparents are asked to bring a picnic lunch to share with their grandchildren in the playground. Make sure the children have decided on a meeting place if there are a few from the one family. Tea, coffee, sandwiches and cake can be purchased near the Canteen on the day. Easter Raffle Tomorrow tickets will be sent home with our students for the P&C Easter Raffle. The P&C is asking for donations of Easter eggs or chocolates for raffle prizes. The eggs do not have to be expensive, just whatever parents can afford. The eggs get bundled up into prize packs. Last year we were able to give over 30 prize packs plus we gave a prize to the student who sold the most tickets. Any tickets sold or unsold must be returned to school by Tuesday 27 th March as an audit requirement. If you are unable to sell the tickets please return them immediately so we can re-issue them to someone else. Please send any Easter egg or chocolate donations to the school office. The raffle will be drawn after the Easter Hat Parade on Thursday 29 th March. Our thanks to Michelle Boorman for organising the raffle tickets. P&C Our P&C AGM will be next week on Wednesday 14 th March, in the Meeting Room. All positions including P&C executive or any sub-committees such as the Canteen committee are voted on at the AGM. Just a reminder that according to NSW P&C Federation guidelines, those wishing to vote, stand for office, or move motions, must be financial members. Membership is $1 per year. Payment of the membership fee must be made by the close of one meeting so that the member is eligible to exercise membership rights at the next meeting. The P&C Executive needs to be made up of people who want the best for the students of this school and support the school in a positive way, that is, a positive team of committed people who make every effort to work together to get the jobs done. The Executive members play an important role in encouraging other parents to become involved in the school and in making new members feel welcome. Year 6 Expression of Interest All Year 6 students have received an ‘Expression of Interest’ form to fill in for 2019. Reminders Coles Sports Vouchers Coles Sports for Schools is back to help Aussie kids stay fit and healthy. When you shop at Coles, you'll receive Sports for Schools vouchers that we can exchange for sports equipment. The more vouchers you collect, the more sports equipment we'll receive. You can drop the vouchers into the school office or into the boxes at Coles in Shoppingworld, Coles in the Mall or Coles at South Grafton. Thank you for all the support so far. Exciting News The Grafton District Services Club (GDSC), in Mary St will be holding an open-air movie night on Saturday 24 March 2018, featuring the family movie ‘Sing’ (PG). This was supposed to occur last January but due to inclement weather plans were changed. It will be held on the bowling green so families are welcome to take their chairs and picnic blankets for a fun filled evening. The movie will begin at 8:00pm. There will be popcorn and other treats for sale and entry is by a gold coin donation. The proceeds raised from the evening will be donated to Westlawn Public School to purchase resources for our students. Thank you to the GDSC for their support. Have a great week,

The SRC present a weekly Citizenship Award at our

primary assembly. Each week we meet to discuss

what encouraging things we have seen happening in

our playground and classrooms. The SRC look for

behaviours that are helpful, demonstrate our school

rules or an act that shows a student as a positive role

model for others. We then nominate children we

have seen displaying these behaviours. Last week

the SRC focussed on finding children demonstrating

‘Excellent Sportsmanship Skills’.

The students who were nominated by SRC

representatives were: - Breeanna Hunter, Cooper

Pereira, Mia Grieve and Chloe Loadsman.

We all voted. The award winner was ‘caught’ during

the week helping others when they fell down and

showed initiative by setting up and packing away

sports equipment. This week’s Citizenship Award

winner is Cooper Pereira.

Congratulations Cooper!

This week, the SRC will be looking for students

demonstrating responsible behaviours.

Library News

Premier’s Reading Challenge The PRC started this week and will continue

until the end of August. All students are

encouraged to participate in the challenge as it

opens a world of books for children to explore.

By entering the Challenge, students may receive

a PRC certificate and their name may appear on

the PRC Gold and Platinum Honour Roll. Their

certificate will have their name and school

printed on it and the Honour Roll has names

listed by alphabetical order and does not

mention our school name. If a parent or carer

giver does not want their child to receive a

certificate or to be on the Honour Roll, you must

not enter any books in your online Student

Reading Record. You can still use the PRC

booklists to help you find books to read and you

can ask Mrs Palmer about a school-based

certificate.

If anyone has any

questions please come

and see Mrs Palmer in

the library.

Happy Reading!

Mrs Palmer
