us, your presence reminds our young people that they are not alone on their journey, that they

are surrounded by family, friends and teachers who want them to reach their potential and be

successful.Thank you for taking the time to be this witness.

Our “meet the teacher” afternoon was again well supported and I thank parents who took

the opportunity to put a name to a face and make connections with the teachers your student

spends their day with. Education is very much a partnership between school, home and student and we need all parents

involved to be able to make the biggest difference for our students.

Our NCEA results which have pass rates of around 90% for levels one, two and three only occur because of the investment

everyone puts into their children, their nieces and nephews, their students.

Last Tuesday evening a number of staff attended the Diocesan Annual Mass for teachers in catholic schools where the

ministry of teaching is blessed and affirmed. It was wonderful to see Christ the King church, Owairaka, overflowing with

700+teachers. Catholic education is in safe hands when we have so many dedicated and committed teachers taking care of

the rangitahi of Tamaki Makaurau diocese.

This Saturday(9th March) we hold our open morning for prospective parents and students to see us in action. Please share

this with your family and friends so they “come and look”.

Polyfest practices continue this week. Next Tuesday (12th March) is our fiafia night which I hope many of you take the

opportunity to attend. I am looking forward to seeing our Diversity group on stage on Thursday and our Tongan and

We have six week to focus on our spiritual growth and renewal It is a time of reflection as we endeavour to understand

You can follow this link or join Food for Faith on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & Linkedin. His website is foodforfaith.org.nz

Marist Leadership Forum On February the 21st Ma’afu (Head boy), Jet (Deputy), Letyna (Deputy) and Louena (Head girl) attended a Marist leadership forum in Christchurch. Over the course of four days we participated in leadership activities that focused on shaping us into better Marist leaders whilst deepening our understanding of Marist values. We were fortunate enough to meet one of only two brothers located in Christchurch - Brother Osmund. Brother Tipene from Sacred Heart also attended and Dan Dungey organised the weekend. We brought back with us to Auckland a wide range of knowledge from other Marist schools located all over New Zealand, we brought back new friendships and a multitude of memories. None of this would have been possible without the full support of the school, who gave us this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Louena Valu, Head Girl

Spirit of Adventure On January 29th to the 1st of February, I was privileged to be part of the Spirit of Adventure as part of my role as Student Representative of the Board of Trustees. I flew down to Invercargill, to where I then bused down to Buff, a really small suburb in the edge of Invercargill with 40 other Student Representatives around the whole of New Zealand. We sailed down to Stewart Island where we slept on sea for 2 nights. Anchoring our ship, we paddled to Stewart Island and took a 3-hour hike to where we met wild life kiwis and other native New Zealand birds. On the second day we paddled to another island, where we took another hike to a beach where we swam in the clear sea water as the water around our ship was surrounded by sharks. Other than hiking around islands, I also got to help work the sails of the ship and steer! Utterly grateful for the experience, the memorable adventure, but also for the good friendships made. Highly recommend Spirit of Adventure to anyone and everyone.

Athletics Day On Tuesday 19th February we held our annual full school athletics day at Trust Arena in Henderson. This annual fixture is a great Whanau competition which gives students an opportunity to participate in a wide range of Athletics events and earn points for their Whanau group. It is all so an opportunity for our students to display their athletic ability, competing against each other with the goal of qualifying to the College Sport Athletics Zone Championships. This year, participation in events was at an all-time high and we saw a number of school records broken throughout the day. In the end, MacKillop was the winning Whanau in what was a close competition and great day out for the students and staff!

Samoan Posiva Night The Samoan Polyfest group had a posiva on Saturday March 2nd at 6:30pm in the school gymnasium. The posiva was to raise money for the groups uniform and all preparations for the upcoming Polyfest Festival. The group raised around $7,500.00. Chairman of the Samoan Parents Komiti Mr. Joe Fuiava thanked the parents, families, friends and all that supported the posiva. During Mr. Fuiava’s remarks he said, what a massive achievement in raising money for our children and their preparations for polyfest. We should all be very proud.” More than 200 came to support the posiva. They also had a glimpse of the groups uniform.
