Principal’s Report
French School support
With recent traumatic events in Paris, our students and staff felt compelled to show support for our neighbouring French school as they returned from their break on Monday. Together with Mrs Pierce and our school captains, Natasha and Cyrus, we presented a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the school community at Maroubra Junction.
The Principal of the French School was overwhelmed with the thoughtfulness of this gesture and was very thankful for the support. To all our French community, both in the French school and also in our own school community, we offer our thoughts and support during this time.
Walkathon
Last Thursday our school took advantage of the break in the weather and walked around the school as part of the fundraising walkathon. Highlights included the orange break (thanks P&C and to our student leaders for handing them out), dancing to Mr Fitz’s guitar playing in Years 2 and 3, the Disney mix from the Hall and the various activities teachers had students perform as they walked past their stations. It was a great event, thanks to all the teachers for their support and to all students for enthusiastically participating.
Many students have already returned their sponsor sheets and money raised. A reminder that all monies returned by Monday 23rd November go in the draw for the great prizes on offer.
Student Elections
Next Monday, Year 5 candidates for School Captain will present their speeches to the Year 5 cohort. We wish them all the best. The top contenders will then present to the student body in Week 9.
Enjoy your week.

It has been a busy but fun few weeks. A very special thank you to Maria Guerrera for her wonderful support and for her amazing art work displayed in the library. Keep reading!! Sue Mirow Thank you to Sue for all her work in preparing the Book Week celebrations this year.
Year 5 Mighty Mates
We have a group of year 5 students who have nominated to be Mighty Mates this year. An MJ Mighty Mate (MJMM) is a buddy to younger children in the playground at Maroubra Junction Public School. The MJMM is a role model for younger students and demonstrates how we use our three core values of Respect, Safety and Learning in the playground. More updates on the MJMM’s in next week’s newsletter Catherine Pierce Deputy Principal (rel)
Core Value Corner
We ask parents to support our schools core value code by regularly checking the weekly core value corner in school newsletters and discussing the focus expectations with your child/children. This week's Expectation of the Week is 'Be Fair' and it comes under the Core Value of 'Respect'. It will be important this week to breakdown the word 'fair' and look at it as an adjective - treating people equally without favouritism or discrimination...and also as an adverb - without cheating or trying to achieve unjust advantage.
Students should also be reminded that being fair should be a part of everything they do and not just associated with playground games or sports.
Master Certificates Congratulations to these students who have worked hard to receive their Master Certificate!
Core Value Corner
We ask parents to support our schools core value code by regularly checking the weekly core value corner in school newsletters and discussing the focus expectations with your child/children.
This week's Expectation of the Week is THINK BEFORE
YOU ACT and it comes under the Core Value of SAFETY.
We are revisiting this one from last term!
As previously mentioned, when focusing on the expecta-
tion of 'Think Before You Act'...we try to look for those
students who are behaving as 'one of many'...those
students who realise that in being 1 of 30 their behaviour
needs to change accordingly...for example, waiting their
turn, not always having to be first, not always being
chosen, letting others have a turn or a say...and perhaps
just recognising and behaving differently to home
because at school they are 'one of many'.
Master Certificates Congratulations to these students who have worked hard to receive their Master Certificate!

Life Education Merchandise
Life Education is currently visiting our school providing students in all classes with a range of important personal development and health programs. Life Education NSW is a not for profit community-based organisation that relies heavily on fundraising within the community to assist in meeting the shortfall left after receiving minimal assistance from Government funding. The sale of Harold merchandise to the children whilst the program is visiting each school supports the fundraising activities of local committees and all proceeds support Life Education within each local area. These products help to remind children about the messages delivered to them during their Life Education session and have either a picture of Harold or the Life Education logo on them. Tersha, our Life Education presenter, will have these products available for sale on Monday, 23 November and Tuesday, 24 November. She will be located outside the administration area from 8.30 am – 8.55am. It would be really helpful for students to have the correct money.

until 1pm. Students from Kindergarten to Year 5 will be invited on this day to visit the 17 exciting stalls Year 6 have created. There will be a variety of food and game stalls for the students.

There will be many things on offer to purchase so please don’t forget to provide your child with money on the day. All the profits the Year 6 students make from the stalls are used to buy the school a gift on behalf of Year 6 2015.

Toy Donation for Barnados
The MJPS Fundraising Committee consists of a small
group of Year 6 students who want to make a difference in
the world.
This year, we have decided that we would like help
children in need who may not receive brand new toys for
Christmas, like we do.
We would like to ask for your help in donating new toys to
place under our MJPS Christmas Tree (that will be located
in the office). These donations will be collected from
Monday the 23rd of November to Wednesday the 9th of
December. These donations will then be transported to
the Barnados Australia gift appeal to be wrapped and
distributed to foster and homeless children across
Australia.
Any gift donation is much appreciated. Please see the gift
guide for some ideas on what to give.
Thank you for your support.

This year 4Y jumped into the deep end of technology
and came out with more skills, knowledge and expertise
in all things Google Classroom. Through the use of our
iPads and laptops we not only found a better way to
complete tasks within the classroom and submit our
homework, but also prevented environmental waste. It
allows us to have access to a lot of different everyday
creation programs, through one single app. As an
electronic classroom it allow us to have tasks sent
through and completed online. It also allows us to keep
in contact with our friends who have left us throughout
the year.
Why we like Google Class-
We need it because our generation is progressing
more and more into technology. It allows us to
send through our homework. If we have questions
we can ask it via the app and other students or Miss
Yook can reply. I like that it is on the computer and
you can see what other people are doing.
Sophia C
We can comment on others
students work. It also allows us to
comment on tasks for homework. It
makes me more motivated to do
work at school and at home.
Max M
P . 7
I can hand in homework via the
internet which means I won’t forget
my homework at home when it is
due.
William V
It saves writing time and pro-vides us with more room to complete tasks. At home I like it because if I have a problem you can ask a question on it and others students or Miss Yook can answer it within a day. Cameron W
We don’t have to write out our narratives
which means our hands won’t hurt. It
makes our work neater and limits
mistakes. We can save paper and the
environment.
Charlie F and Jack G.J
Editing and completing tasks as a class… At the same time!!
Google classroom is fun
because you can learn
more about technology.
It allows us to build skills
to help solve technical
issues on our iPads in the
future.

With over half the month of Movember gone we thought we would give you a quick update on our progress. Mr Fitz and Mr Gold have pledged to move everyday. Mr Gold has done such activities as golf, mountain biking, surfing and running
so far this month. Mr Fitz has been doing sit ups and push-ups daily, as well as some running to
help him out with his tough mudder preparation. Mr Franki is trying hard on his moustache. We suggest he uses some fertiliser
to help with the growth. Mr Tait is bringing back World Series Cricket with his impression of Dennis
Lillee; and Mr Wiblen is probably the only one who thinks his ‘handle bar’ style looks
good. On Wednesday, Week 8, we will be supporting the promotion of Men’s Health by having a ‘Moustache Day’ at school. Students can draw or bring their own moustache to school or they can have their moustache drawn by a Year 6 student for a gold coin donation. In the meantime are two ways you can contribute to our Mo growing effort: Donate online at http://moteam.co/mjps-men (if you would like a tax receipt) -OR- Donate money into the collecting box in the School Office.

parents will advertise community events which may be of interest. MJPS does
