Regular school attendance Our series of information on school attendance continues. We hope you have found these articles useful. Keeping the school informed If your child has to be absent from school, it is important to tell the school and provide a reason for the absence. To explain an absence parents and carers may: send a note, fax or email to the school telephone the school, or visit the school. Whenever possible, parents and carers are encouraged to provide an explanation for absences before the absences occur. The principal of the school has the right to question parents’ requests for their child to be absent from school. They may also question an explanation given for a child’s absence from school. Holidays Parents and carers are encouraged not to withdraw their children from school for family holidays. If this is necessary parents should discuss these absences with the principal and may be requested to apply for a Certificate of Exemption from attendance at school. This will ensure that these absences are not permanently recorded as unjustified. It’s Showtime! Stage 3 Interactive Timeline Showcase Success

Students in 5-6B & 5-6T (and their teachers) are extremely proud of the highly successful showcase of their interactive timeline, ‘My Place’, Australian history through the decades, last Friday in the hall.

The whole school were given an opportunity to visit the ‘time warp’, going back into time over 200 years! As they entered the timeline, each class watched anengagingvideohighlightingsignificantpastevents in Australia. Then the fun was on!

Starting from the year 2008 students and their teachers gained information from the ‘characters’ (played by Stage 3 students) of each decade going right back to ‘Before time’. They asked questions from question boxes, watched PowToon, Slideshare, Prezi and Power Point visual displays

and browsed through research books full of interesting facts and pictures.

To conclude the show, Stage 3 students taught the classes a range of popular ‘old fashioned’ games such as ‘Oranges & Lemons’, marbles, Twister and ‘hula, hula’ with hoops.

Parents, carers and community members were invited in for the last session to share the success of their child’s independent research task that had progressed throughout the term.

Thank you for your huge effort 5-6B & 5-6T. We are all clapping your well earned praises as the curtain goes down!

K-1WStudents in K-1W have been learning more about the creatures that live ‘under the sea’. Each day during independent writing, the students listen to information texts which inform them of details about different types of sea creatures. Each student then is to write about what they havelearnt;suchashowtheyfindfood, protectthemselves and move. We have learnt so many new and interesting facts about sea creatures.

DID YOU KNOW; the seahorse is the only living animal that the father carries and delivers babies? I bet Mr Ware is glad!

Did you know that crabs have ten legs AND walk sideways instead of forwards? They use their back legs to assist with swimming AND remove their shells when their soft body grows too large for it! THEN, they grow a new one!

Theboxjellyfishhasclumps of eyes on four sides of its bell, up to 15 tentacles and they can grow up to 3m long; that’s taller than Franklyn and Eliana combined in length!

We have made our own aquariums, which we includedseaweedwhichthefisheatandusetohideamongstforprotection.Manyfishhaveaskeleton, scalesandfins;whichtheyusetoswimin a straight line through the water.

This week we started to practice publishing our wonderful stories on our XO’s, even Mrs Madden was very surprised at the high quality editing and proof reading skills students demonstrated in Kindy and Year 1 so far, a credit to Mrs Wares excellent ICT teaching!

We are all still awaiting the arrival of baby Ware!

Our school is a Positive Behaviour Learning

school and as such we want the best behaviour from all our children

to ensure everyone learnsto the very best of their ability.

2-3G Pencil BoxesThe last few weeks have seen 2-3G busy putting together wooden pencil boxes. After the pieces were glued together they were then sanded ready for varnish. Here are some comments from the studentsLachlan: “I am really looking forward to painting my pencil box. When we glued the box together we held the wood with clamps.” Talitha: “I am looking forward to using my pencil box.” Tanaeya: “Wow we will have our own pencil box.” Aurealie: “I am looking forward to having it. When we sanded the box we had to follow the grain.” Samuel: “We had to sand all the glue off the box.” Tanaeya: “When we sanded the box we had to follow the way the wood was facing.” Ivan: “We had to sand the box the same way all the time.”
