Principal’s Report PARENT THANK YOU BREAKFAST
Each year we aim to recognise the wonderful contributions of our
parents by hosting a small thank you event. As mentioned
recently, the morning teas we have held over the last several
years have not been strongly attended due to parents juggling
other commitments through the school day.
Next Wednesday 30th November at 8:30am, we will therefore be hosting a
“Thank You Breakfast” for parents who have been actively involved in the school
throughout the year. We hope that parents will find the timing of this event more
accessible. There will be barista made coffee available as well as some light
refreshments, so we hope you may be able to attend so that we may express our
thanks for your support.
To assist the school with the organisation of this event, it is important that parents who plan to attend RSVP to [email protected] no later than midday on Tuesday 29th November.
FREE DRESS DAY – SUPPORT FOR NEXT YEAR’S FETE
Next Thursday 1st December has been designated
as a free dress day for students in support of next
year’s school Fete which will be held on Sunday 19th
March.
Any child who comes in free dress on Thursday 1st
December is asked to bring a block of chocolate to
school, which will then be stored for use on the
‘Chocolate Toss’ at the Fete.
How exciting to see the months of planning
beginning to unfold in support of next year’s Fete!
LOST PROPERTY – HELP NEEDED
Melbourne’s variable spring weather has resulted
in an ‘explosion’ of lost property in recent weeks.
We would be really grateful for any parents who
could spare an hour or two to go through all of the
windcheaters/hats etc and group them into
classes for return to the classrooms.
If you could lend a hand, please drop by the
office.

SCHOOL CALENDAR
Thank you to the families who responded to a short survey in the newsletter recently regarding the School
Calendar that was trialled this year by the Community Engagement subcommittee of School Council.
Unfortunately we only had about 20 responses to the survey, with only about a dozen families indicating that they
would like a calendar again in 2017. Given this feedback, we will not proceed with a hard copy calendar again in
2017, but rather concentrate on other platforms such as the Newsletter/Compass/eNews etc to ensure our
school’s events are well publicised.
A big thank you to the Community Engagement subcommittee for trialling this concept in 2016, with particular
thanks to Sally Lalande (School Council parent) for coordinating this project.
YEAR 6 CASHTIVITY MARKET
Our Year 6 students are excitedly gearing up for their annual
Cashtivity Market which is being held tomorrow (Thursday 24th
November). Students from Prep to Year 5 will visit the Market at
designated times throughout the morning to purchase ‘wares’
produced by the Year 6 students.
The Market aims to build the financial literacy of our senior
students; starting with the development of their ideas & business
plans through to the construction of the goods and services they
hope to sell. Half the money raised from the Market will support
the Year 6 Graduation evening, whilst the other half will be
donated to a recognised charity.
We recommend that student’s bring no more than $5.00 dollars to
spend at the market. We thank you in anticipation of your support for this program and our budding entrepreneurs
at Willy North!
COMMUNITY DATABASE
With the school Musical behind us and our Fete only a few months away, now’s the time to jump onto our newly
launched Community Database to register how you would like to support the school in the future. It only takes a
few minutes to log your details onto the database. This information will greatly assist the school in rallying support
for future events.
The wonderful thing about the database is that it then enables the school to make personalised contact with you in
a manner that is respectful of how you would like to provide support. In short, the database takes out some of the
sensitivities, assumptions and sometimes difficult conversations about volunteering.
You can log onto our Community Database by clicking this link Database Contact Details
“TEACHER THANK YOU” LUNCH
A big thank you to all students and parents who have composed messages of thanks and
made gold coin donations for the upcoming “Teacher Thank You” lunch being coordinated
by parents, for Friday 2nd December. The boxes will remain in the foyer of the main office
until the end of this week for any students or parents wishing to make further contributions.
Enjoy the rest of the week

purchased at the store located at Unit 1, 128 Bertie Street Port Melbourne. Items can also be purchased online.
Email [email protected]. Trading hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm, Saturday 9.00am to 1.00pm and closed on Sunday. ______________________________________________________________________________________________
School Banking School banking day is Wednesday. Don’t forget to send in your child’s bank book.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Student Safety Please take the time to regularly remind your child/ren about safety, especially when going to
and from school. Here are the important points to mention:
Do not to talk to strangers and never accept a ride from a stranger, or accept lollies or gifts from a stranger.
Immediately report any issue or problem you may have when going to or from school, to your mum and dad, or to your teacher, the Principal, Assistant Principal or office staff.
Always get permission from mum or dad before going to play with a friend after school and always let mum and dad know where you will be and what time you will be home.
We advise that, wherever possible, children should travel to or from school with an adult or with their friends, rather than travel alone.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Early Release All children collected from school before 3.30pm must be signed out at the Office. Parents will be handed an ‘Early Release Pass’ to hand to the supervising teacher. If a child is signed out at Recess or Lunch time, the Office staff will call the child to the Office and then ensure the Early Release Pass is given to the supervising teacher.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Bikes & Scooters Many children ride bikes and scooters to school each day. All bikes and scooters must be locked up in either the Bike or Scooter Enclosure to prevent theft. Please ensure your child has a chain and a lock. All children who ride a bike or scooter must wear a helmet which is a requirement by the Government . The school regularly reminds all children about wearing helmets for their safety. All bikes, scooters, skateboards, ribstic and helmets must be labelled, with your child’s name and class. Children are reminded they must walk their bike, scooter, skateboard or ribstic to and from the school gates. No bikes are to be brought through the school
buildings and we request, where possible, that scooters are also not walked through the building.

Working With Children Cards
Cardholders who are required to renew their WWCC will no longer need to go to Australia Post to lodge a paper form and present their current card. Cardholders will go to the WWCC website to complete their renewal application online and, if applying for an Employee Check, pay the fee using a credit card when using the online renewal process, cardholders will be notified by SMS, letter or email 28 days before their WWCC is due to expire. It is important for cardholders to keep their contact details up to date so that they receive this important reminder.
After receiving a notification, individuals continuing to do child-related work should go to MyCheck on the WWCC website and apply to renew their check. Cardholders will be asked to register with MyCheck if they have not already done so. Once logged in to MyCheck, cardholders will be prompted to confirm or update their personal contact and work details, complete the online form and, if applying for an Employee Check, pay the non-refundable $102.70 fee.
More information: an FAQ guide to online renewals will be available in 'Publications' under 'Resources' on the WWC
website, or contact the Customer Support Line on 1300 652 879 8.30am – 5.00pm weekdays except public holidays.

‘Thank You’ function for the wonderful teachers and staff of WNPS!
A special ‘thank you’ lunch is being held on Friday, 2nd
December for the fabulous teachers and staff of Willy North Primary.
A small parent committee has organised this event to represent all parents in thanking the teachers and support staff for everything they do for our children.
We are asking parents to support the event in two ways:
Last week each child brought home a slip of paper asking them to write and/or draw about
something they have enjoyed about school this year. These messages will be displayed outside the staff room for all to enjoy! A box is been set up at the front office for notes. We would be most grateful if these could be returned by Friday, 25
th November. If you lose your
note, any slip of paper is fine!
Please bring a gold coin donation to school by Friday 25th November to help cover the cost of the food, drinks and decorations for the staff lunch. Please drop your donation into the “donations box” located at the front office.
We thank you for your support!

WNPS School Fete - White Elephant Stall Are you planning to clean out your kids cupboards before Christmas???
The WNPS White Elephant/Trash & Treasure stall is known as the biggest and best in the West
and raised over $6,000 at the last Fete.
To be a huge success, the White Elephant Stall relies on the goodwill of our school community
to donate good quality toys, books, puzzles, bicycles, scooters, sporting goods, CD's, DVD's,
(no VHS!) and small household bric-a-brac items.
Items that sell well are clean, working and intact, we do not accept items that are broken
or have parts missing.
More collection dates to be announced in 2017 leading up to the big day.
Please bring your donations to the shed located at the rear of the teachers’ car park (Station
Street entrance). To prevent vandalism and theft, donations must be made only when the shed
is attended; under no circumstances are goods to be left at the shed whilst it is unattended.
Please contact Leanne Sutton on 0424 221 752 for further information; or to volunteer your
