BIG ON HEART – RESPECT – RESPONSIBILITY – LEARNING WHILE STRIVING TO EXCEL
THE PRINCIPAL
WELCOME
Mr Darryl Gauld will be taking Ms Bowley’s classes
until the end of the year. It is so exciting to have a
very experienced English and Humanities teacher join
the Secondary Department. Mr Gauld has taught in
many locations across Australia and has had an
extensive career. Mr Gauld will provide high
educational opportunities for students at Biggenden
State School in English and Geography this term.
2018 STAFFING
It is that time of the year when planning for the
upcoming year occurs. Mrs Allison Ryan will be
joining the Primary Department in 2018. Mrs Ryan is
a senior experienced teacher having taught for 23
years in Hervey Bay and prior to that in Mt Isa. Mrs
Ryan and her husband have purchased a property in
Biggenden.
At the present moment, classes being taught by
various teachers are being negotiated and planned.
Parents will be notified as soon as the classes have
been decided.
STUDENT FREE DAY
On Monday, all staff worked on Professional
Development activities either at school or at other
facilities. Student Free Days are excellent days for all
staff to collaborate and expand upon their knowledge
and skills for the benefit of the students.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance target is to achieve 96.3% attendance
each week for Prep to Year 10 students. In week 2 of
Term 4, students achieved 93.4% attendance. Let’s
keep working on coming to school to learn.
SAME DAY ABSENCE NOTIFICATION
School mobile number is 0408747301 – please text
when your child is absent from school.
Congratulations to all parents who have been texting
or ringing the office to inform us of absences. Most
days we do not have to contact any parent/caregiver
about their child’s absence. Great work to you all.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR LEARNING
Biggenden State School is a positive behaviour school.
We are Big On: Respect; Responsibility; Heart and
Learning. Each term students and staff focus on a
topic. Term 4 focus is being ‘Big On - Respect.’ This
week students will focus on being open minded and
showing a willing to listen to others ideas and
opinions.
PLAY IS THE WAY
Resist the temptation to offer sympathy when firm guidance is needed. Sympathy feels better, but firm guidance always helps more.
PREP TRANSITION DAY
Enrolments are now being taken for children to enrol
in Prep in 2018.
Under the Education (General Provisions) Regulation 2006, a child is eligible for enrolment in the Prep year if they will turn 5 years of age by 30 June in the proposed year of attendance at school. There has been no change to the age eligibility for Prep enrolment. However, children who turn 5 years of age by 31 July in the year of proposed Prep attendance, or children who have already started a Prep-equivalent program in another state, territory or country, may apply for early entry to Prep at a Queensland school if it is considered in their best educational interests to do so.
As in previous years, Prep Transition days will occur
each Monday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm commencing

on 23rd October, 2017 for the next five weeks.
Information packages can be collected from the
school office or from the Biggenden District
Kindergarten.
MATHEMATICS SESSIONS
It has been fantastic to see and hear the amount of
parents who have made the time to come to school
and participate in the mathematic sessions that have
been held by class teachers. Please do not hesitate to
contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions
about any of the subject areas. Partnerships with
parents, students and teachers are essential.
THANK YOU - CLEANERS
Rita, Tracey and Louise our very hard working and conscientious cleaners bring light heartedness to our facility each and every day. The ladies love their job and have created a cleaners trophy award which is presented each week to a year level who has met the Cleaners criteria for the week within their classroom. The students are loving this challenge and each Monday look forward to hearing who has won this award on parade.

NEWS FROM CHAPPY
PASTORAL CARE LESSONS
Pastoral lessons have continued to focus on respecting
the values of others e.g. How would you like to be
treated by a policeman, a teacher or the bus driver?
Then how do you think a policeman, teacher or bus
driver would like to be treated?
The Golden Rule, "Treat others as you would like to be
treated" is remembered quite well in the primary
classes. We also read "Little Miss Bossy" and the
children identified that it is good to replace bossy
boots with kind boots, caring boots, happy boots and
polite boots.
BREAKFAST CLUB
Breakfast Club every Tuesday - thanks to donations from Foodworks.
