DATES TO

REMEMBER

Good Afternoon Parents/Carers,

‘Our role as adults and educators is not getting students to do their best but to get them to exceed what they think their potential is.’ John Hattie

We are almost at the mid - point of Term 3 and as usual the term is going very quickly. The students have had the opportunity to participate in activities, excursions and Year 4/5 students are attending Batchelor camp next week so it has been very busy for them also. We continue to have some issues with students who play and eat in toilets and I ask that you support us by discussing with your children why this is not a good idea. In an effort to minimise this behaviour and continue to ensure there are minimal disruptions to student class time we ask that students bring their water bottles from home to use when needed during this time so they don’t leave the classroom. A big congratulations to Transition students who are already doing this. Also teachers will be in classrooms at the beginning of the day and after breaks to encourage students to have a drink and go to the toilet before the second bell.

We have decided to combine our 40th Birthday cake and celebrations with ‘Wanguri - The Musical’ on 8 September. We will send notifications via Skoolbag closer to the date.

NAPLAN results have arrived and will be sent home with students in Year 3 and 5 tomorrow so please look out for them. office.) The information you provide will help direct future planning for the School Council and give us the feedback to continue to improve the educational opportunities for your students.

After School Cycling Skills Program Years 2-4 We have the opportunity to run a cycling skills program after school for Year 2 to 4 students. This is a free program for students from Year 2 to 4, from 3pm to 4pm, probably on Thursday afternoons, for 5 weeks. Students must provide their own bike. Parents will pick up their child at 4pm after the program. The program will be delivered by a facilitator from Pedals NT. We will not be able to run the program unless there is a significant amount of students participating so we are asking parents to fill in the form below to express interest in their child participating in this course. Transition have been busy learning through our ‘Investigations’ time. We have been

focusing on using our sounds to write words and then being able to read our writing! We

have been learning to write our own lunch orders for our mini Wanguri Canteen we have in

the classroom.

We have also been travelling around the world with our International Airport in the

classroom. We have been looking at maps to find out where we are going to next and using

our number knowledge to find out what time our plane leaves.

We have been using our number knowledge to weigh our bags and ourselves at the airport

to find out who or what is heavier or lighter!

Our Family Centre connects with our history unit this term as we explore our personal

world and identify who is in our family and what special events we celebrate with them. We

love our families! This week we also started learning about our shapes and sorting them

into different ways. It has been a busy year!’
