As you know, his motto was “instaurare omnia in Cristo,” to restore or renew all things in Christ—a motto he lived with great fidelity in his life as a priest, a bishop, and as a successor of Saint Peter. Saint Pius X has been called “the glorious pope of the Eucharist.” Saint John Paul II once said that “no Christian community can be built up unless it has its basis and center in the celebration of the most Holy Eucharist.” How true these words are! This is the center of our life, the center of the life of this parish and of the entire Church. It is important that we attend Mass often and especially on days of obligation. It is also important that we remember church is a place of worship and prayer—during Mass we are in the presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Keeping this in mind, it is important to try and be respectful to Our Lord and to others when we are in church and celebrating the sacraments. I invite all of you for the feast day celebration on August 18 th &19 th and the social gathering after the Sunday Mass. A special Novena will begin on August 9th in preparation for the Parish Feast. St. Pius X, pray for us The title of our parish is Saint Pius X, one of the greatest popes in the history of the Church. Ministry Fair 2018 Every parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church (St. Pius X) is invited and encouraged to

attend this year’s ‘Ministry Fair’, hosted by the Pastoral Council.

After Mass Saturday, September 8 and after Mass Sunday, September 9.

“Stewardship – A Disciple’s Way of Life.”

If you recall, the St. Pius X Catholic Church Vision Statement is; “To increase

the disciples of Jesus Christ within our Parish and Community.” So,

what identifies a steward? As defined by the USCCB: “Safeguarding material

and human resources and using them responsibly are one answer; so is

generous giving of time, talent, and treasure. But being a Christian steward means more.

As Christian stewards, we receive God's gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share

them lovingly in justice with others, and return them with increase to the Lord.”

What is the relationship between Disciples and Stewards? Below is an excerpt from the

USCCB.

Let us begin with being a disciple—a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. As members of

the Church, Jesus calls us to be disciples. This has astonishing implications:

• Mature disciples make a conscious decision to follow Jesus, no matter what the cost.

• Christian disciples experience conversion—life shaping changes of mind and heart—and commit their very selves to the Lord.

• Christian stewards respond in a way to the call to be a disciple. Stewardship has the power to shape and mold our understanding of our lives and the way in which we live. Jesus' disciples and Christian stewards recognize God as the origin of life, giver of freedom, and source of all things. We are grateful for the gifts we have received and are eager to use them to show our love for God and for one another. We look to the life and teaching of Jesus for guidance in living as Christian stewards. At the Ministry Fair you will be able to explore the different opportunities for you to share your gifts of Time and Talents by volunteering in one or more of the Ministries within the Parish and outside the Parish. Many people are concerned that volunteering will take too much of their time away from family, work and other activities. Yes, when you volunteer it’s a commitment! But keep in mind that you can control how much time you volunteer and when. Any amount of sharing of God’s gifts to you are appreciated.

The Catterall Family and Mission

Charles Catterall

The purpose of this article is to introduce you to my family and to share what I hope to accomplish together with you in ministry. Connie and I have been united in marriage for 24 ½ years. God has blessed us with eleven children. Two were miscarriages and the remaining nine range in age from 1 year to 23 years. Connie is originally from north Texas and I am mostly from northeast Wyoming.

Connie grew up in a Lutheran home, Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. I grew up in a godless home. A young man introduced me to Christ Jesus at age 20 while attending the University of Wyoming. I have been seriously and passionately following Jesus

Page 9: Newsletter Summer 2018piusxkf.com/documents/Newsletter Summer 2018.pdf · Roman Catholic Church Parish Newsletter Summer 2018 St. Pius X, pray for us The title of our parish is Saint

ever since. Along my journey I have dabbled in many denominations, but mostly Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Church of the Lutheran Brethren of America, and the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference. We had served in Protestant pastoral ministry for fourteen years prior to entering full communion with the Roman Catholic Church in November 2010. Most of our children have been raised Lutheran and Congregationalist; only two have been Roman Catholic from conception. We have served in professional ministry overseas and throughout the United States.

Three topics converged together, culminating in my entrance into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church: Christian unity, Church governance, and being introduced to the Magisterial teachings of the Church. Initially, Connie consented to entering full communion for the sake of spiritual unity in our family. Eventually, though, these words from St. James convinced her to embrace Catholic beliefs more fully, “A man is justified by works, not by faith alone.” The fact that Martin Luther himself promoted staying united with Rome for at least four years after he publicly began working for reform in the Church influenced her as well. All of our children entered full communion with us at that time and have been deliberating upon the Catholic Faith, in varying degrees, ever since.

Since entering full communion we have served in three parishes in Rock Springs, WY, and Silverton and Portland, OR. I have served as a coordinator of liturgy, faith formation, and volunteers. Connie and some of our children have served as altar servers and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion.

The following excerpt from the Catechism of the Catholic Church gives insight into my emphases as a director of faith formation.

1074 "The liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed; it is also the font from which all her power flows." It is therefore the privileged place for catechizing the People of God. "Catechesis is intrinsically linked with the whole of liturgical and sacramental activity, for it is in the sacraments, especially in the Eucharist, that Christ Jesus works in fullness for the transformation of men."

All things in heaven and earth flow from the liturgy and Eucharist and toward the liturgy and Eucharist, because Jesus Christ our Lord, in communion with the Father and the Holy Spirit, is the Eucharist. Making devoted followers of Jesus Christ, our mission, requires inviting all people to and forming them for the Eucharist, wherein we receive the life-transforming power of Christ Jesus, so that we can be conformed into His image in order to live and love like Him. Therefore, liturgical catechesis will be my primary emphasis as your director of faith formation.

Please know that I consider the opportunity to serve as your Director of Faith Formation a gift from God and you, a gift I do not take for granted and that I am very grateful for. May God bless our combined efforts for His glory and our salvation.

VocationsVocationsVocationsVocations

The Vocations Committee thanks the following for their Vocations presentations at the Sacred Heart/Vacation Bible School held June 25-

29:

• Jennifer and Shawn Snoozy—spoke on the vocation of Marriage

• Brother Nolasco and Sister Gloriosa—shared about their vocation in Consecrated Religious Life

• Taylor Snider who reminded the children that God calls us also in the Single phases of our lives and some people remain Single to serve God and the Church

• Father Rogatian—presented the vocation to Priesthood

• Kristen Scott—The Master of Ceremonies for the entire series.

We plant the seed; God gives the increase. May these presentations bless the presenters for their generosity and the children as they listen to God’s call in their lives.

The Vocations Committee sponsors a number of activities to promote and pray for Vocations, especially to the Priesthood. These activities include: Vocation Crucifix Program, Holy Hour and Adoration for Vocations, Vocation Prayer before all Masses, Religious Education Letters to Seminarians, Catechesis on Vocations, and much, much more.

It’s through the power of prayer that can make the difference in getting new, incardinated Priests in the Diocese of Baker. If you’re a sceptic, consider the following: The power of prayer comes from the promise that Jesus made concerning prayer, as He so beautifully shows: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, it shall be opened.” DOES IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE? Look at the following pages for the answer.

This section of the newsletter contains questions frequently asked

by both Catholics and non-Catholics about our faith. Knowing the

answers help you to grow in your faith.

Why do Catholics have Eucharistic Adoration & The Importance of Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction is an extension of the adoration of the Blessed

Sacrament which occurs in every Mass: "Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes

away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb." Exposition

of the Blessed Sacrament flows from the sacrifice of the Mass and serves to deepen our

hunger for Communion with Christ and the rest of the Church. The Rite concludes with the

ordained minister blessing the faithful with the Blessed Sacrament.

"The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will

spend on earth. Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen your union with Him

and make your soul everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in Heaven, and will help bring

about everlasting peace on earth,"

- Saint Teresa of Calcutta

What is Adoration?

It is highly fitting that Christ should have wanted to remain present to His Church in this

unique way. Since Christ was about to take His departure from His own in His visible form,

He wanted to give us His sacramental presence; since He was about to offer Himself on

the cross to save us, He wanted us to have the memorial of the love with which He loved

us "to the end," even to the giving of His life. In His Eucharistic presence He remains

mysteriously in our midst as the one who loved us and gave Himself up for us, and He

remains under signs that express and communicate this love.

The Church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship. Jesus

awaits us in this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the time to go to meet Him

in adoration, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the

serious offenses and crimes of the world. Let our adoration never cease

(Catechism Catholic Church; 1380).

Opportunities to participate in Eucharistic Adoration:

• The first Friday of the month from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.

• The fourth Wednesday of every month during the ‘Holy Hour for Vocations’ from 3:00

pm to 4:00 pm.

• ‘40 Hours Devotion’ with Eucharistic Adoration during Lent. Dates and times are posted

in the Bulletin.

• Eucharistic Adoration for the Youth Group - Dates and times are posted in the Bulletin.
