Newsletter Issue 03 Friday 25 September 2015 L Roberts — Head Teacher Dear Parents/Carers I hope you have had a good week. Now the pupils are in full swing and the summer holiday seems a distant memory, it’s therefore mely to remind you of a few important issues. Road Safety—We had a child from another school knocked down outside school this week, thankfully the pupil was not seriously hurt and was quickly taken to hospital. It is therefore essenal that you remind your child to use the pedestrian bridge at all mes when coming to and from school. It would be great if all parents could set a good example by also using the footbridge, as I somemes see parents hand in hand with their children aempng to cross a really busy road, near a juncon, darng out between parked cars. Parking—As you will all be aware, the roads surrounding the school get very busy at the start and the end of the school day. Could I please ask you therefore to bear several things in mind when dropping off or picking up your child. There are areas outside of school which need to be kept clear for the use of coaches and to allow staff and visitors access to the school. Please adhere to the road markings and do not park across the entrance gates or on the areas marked by zig-zags, as this can cause problems not only for access, but is also dangerous for pupils. We are very fortunate here at St Bede’s to have tolerant and kindly neighbours, so also please ensure that you do not park across their driveways or park on the grassed areas. In addion to this, please be aware that the only me parents should drive into the school grounds before or aſter school is if they are dropping off a pupil who has specific mobility issues. This helps to ease congeson in already a crowded area and we would appreciate your co-operaon. Parents’ Evenings Monday 12 October 4-6.30pm Wednesday 14 October 5-7.30pm I would ask that you ensure that you make an appointment to see your child’s teacher at the forthcoming Parents’ Evening. This is a really good opportunity to get a sense of how well your child is doing in school and nip any issues “in the bud.” You can book your appointment through your Insight account on the school website. We will also be asking you on the evening to complete a short quesonnaire about school, to assist us in delivering the best experience possible to you and your children. I would really appreciate your help on this and it should only take a few minutes. Laptops will be set up in the hall to give you access to the quesonnaire. You can create a login at any me at: hps:// parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/login?desnaon=give-your-views - you will just need an email address to register. L Roberts — Head Teacher

Dear Parents/Carers

I hope you have had a good week. Now the pupils are in full swing and the summer holiday seems a distant memory, it’s therefore timely to remind you of a few important issues.

Road Safety—We had a child from another school knocked down outside school this week, thankfully the pupil was not seriously hurt and was quickly taken to hospital. It is therefore essential that you remind your child to use the pedestrian bridge at all times when coming to and from school. It would be great if all parents could set a good example by also using the footbridge, as I sometimes see parents hand in hand with their children attempting to cross a really busy road, near a junction, darting out between parked cars.

In addition to this, please be aware that the only time parents should drive into the school grounds before or after school is if they are dropping off a pupil who has specific mobility issues. This helps to ease congestion in already a crowded area and we would appreciate your co-operation.

This is a really good opportunity to get a sense of how well your child is doing in school and nip any issues “in the bud.” You can book your appointment through your Insight account on the school website. I would really appreciate your help on this and it should only take a few minutes. Laptops will be set up in the hall to give you access to the questionnaire. On Tuesday afternoon the St. Bede’s Harmony Group were delighted to perform at the Princess Alexandra Hospital for their Staff Appreciation Day. They performed a number of songs from their repertoire including arranged versions of ‘Titanium’ and ‘Roar’ to delighted staff and pa-tients at the hospital. Year 7 played Nunnery Wood on Wednesday and Thursday night in an A and B team fixtures. The A team performed superbly and won comfortably 14 – 1. Nunnery Wood scored first but a St Bede’s fightback meant that we were 6 – 1 up at half time. Further goals followed in the second half with Mr Russell’s only complaint being that poor finishing stopped the score being more. Cian Hodson, George Skelton and Charlie Williams all scored hat tricks, while Brandon Catton scored one goal. The star of the show was Jake Staunton who, in his first game for St Bede’s, scored 4 goals.

The B team started slowly in their game and were indebted to Tom Coleman who made a string of fine saves; Declan Osland and Sam Summers made some superb tackles. Nunnery Wood eventually scored twice before half time and, despite Jack Turner and Ciaran O’Connor going close, could not find the net. St Bede’s started the second half much brighter and got a goal back through Ciaran O’Connor, however, Nunnery Wood scored gain to make it 3 – 1. Captain Harry Bradley then pulled another goal back and Ethan Lewis went close before, in the dying seconds, Elliott Giles fired home a superb strike in to the roof of the net to ensure the final score finished 3 – 3. Well done to the entire team who showed good character to fight back.

W e are having a CAFOD fund raising day on Friday 2 October for the plight of the Syrian Refugees. Mrs Jane Lavery from CAFOD will be speaking to the children about the work of CAFOD and the plight of the Syrian refuges at both Key Stage assemblies next week.

In line with the Theme “Brighten up with this harvest” pupils can wear brightly coloured socks on that day and, if they decide to wear colourful socks, they are to bring a £1 donation. Pupils will be allowed to wear the socks over their uni-form trousers for the day. We will also have opportunities for the pupils to prayer and reflect on the suffering that these refugees are experiencing during the special Year 7 reflection liturgy and at form time. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Pupils and staff from St Bede’s Catholic Middle School, Redditch are pictured with

Bishop William Kenney after celebrating the Annual Chaplaincy Commissioning Mass

at St Chad's Cathedral on 16 September, together with the Diocesan Education

Service and The Karelan Youth Trust.

This was a great way to begin a year of chaplaincy at St. Bede’s School and a

chance for all to come and pray together and be sent out with a common vision and

purpose.
