PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
It was nice to celebrate our Labour Day weekend on Monday and spend some
family time enjoying the sunshine!
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) –
Parent Information Session
On Tuesday 6th March we held an NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme)
information session for our school community. The workshop was facilitated by
The Association for Children with a Disability. It was designed to introduce the
NDIS which rolls out in the South East Region later this year. The NDIS is the most
significant change in the way people with a disability will receive supports and
services. The session was well attended and the information was well received.
We hope to run more sessions during the year. Thank you to Amanda Eames,
Vocational Pathways Co-ordinator, and her team for the organisation of this event.
Program and Student Reviews (PSR) Night
Emerson School’s Program and Student Reviews (PSR) night will
be held next Thursday, 22nd
March. I encourage all families to
confirm an interview time with your child’s pastoral homeroom teacher. These PSR
meetings are a great way to evaluate your child’s progress and assist in the future
planning of programs to suit your child’s needs. Classes will finish early: Middle
School - 1.45pm and Jnr/Snr School—2.00 pm on PSR. Buses will run an hour
earlier than normal time.
Car Park Safety
I remind all parents/guardians, staff and students to be careful when
dropping off or picking up students. Cars should not be parked in the
bus turning zone at any time.

We will be studying the value Assertiveness for the next fortnight.
Assertive people act in a positive and confident way. They think for themselves. People demonstrating
assertiveness stand up for what they feel is right. Assertive people stand up to bullies. They always follow
the 5 point plan when dealing with someone who is bullying them or others.
EMERSON’S 5 POINT PLAN
1. Ignore
2. Walk away
3. Say ‘STOP annoying me’
4. Say ‘LEAVE me alone’
5. Tell the teacher

HEALTH TIP:
If you eat 2 bananas a day for a month this is what happens to your body:
Bananas are highly rich in iron and a beneficial in the treatment of anemia.
Bananas boost energy levels instantly because of the fructose and glucose.
Bananas help you stop smoking – the nutrients like potassium and magnesium that
are present in a banana take the nicotine out of your body.
Bananas improve your mood by increasing your serotonin (feel good hormone) production.
Potassium in bananas helps in developing brain function and keeping alertness.
Vitamin B6 in bananas is useful in the development of antibodies in the blood.
It is of most importance that Parents/Carers notify the appropriate school
office prior to 2.15pm to make alternative travel arrangements for the day.
This can be done by calling the office or a note in the student diary.
The word of the student cannot be accepted.

Last Friday 55 students played in the Interschool Basketball and Volleyball carnival day. It was a fantastic day with all
students playing to the best of their ability and demonstrating the progress they have made throughout the term. The
majority of games had a close score and were fought until the final buzzer. The staff would like to congratulate all of the
teams, you represented Emerson with pride and passion. The boys A-grade team came away with the championship.
This is the 5th year they have been undefeated. A huge congratulations to the team!
Next term Interschool Sport will be Soccer and Hockey. Emerson will be entering 4 soccer teams and 2 hockey teams.
Senior students will be asked in the first week of Term 2 to express their interest in either sport.
This week the PE team have been putting together the Cross Country team for next term. Students will be informed of
the team next Friday. If you would like to join the team please let staff know by next Friday.
Many thanks for the Sports for Schools vouchers that have been handed in. The running tally is currently 9400
