It is almost one year since Nepal found itself picking up the pieces following the most devastating earthquake it had seen in almost a century. Trocaire sprang into action immediately after the earthquake. Caritas, the global network of Catholic Relief Agencies of which Trocaire is a member, has a strong presence in Nepal. Caritas was established by the Catholic Church in 1990 and today has a presence in 50 of the countrys 75 districts. Since the earthquake struck, the Caritas family has been working tirelessly to help people recover and rebuild. Our main work was providing immediate relief materials, like tarpaulin, sheets, mats, blankets. Also in a number of villages where there was a real shortage of food, we also distributed food items; and in some of the villages, we provided tents and rope. Those efforts were massively helped by the dedication of people all over Ireland who ran fundraising campaigns to support Trocaires relief efforts. THE DEEP END - ‘COME AND HAVE BREAKFAST’

During these Easter weeks we read from St John’s Gospel. The passages are very deep and in today’s text there are many things going on. Perhaps we

might focus on Peter and the journey he has made. We all have experience of friendships and relationships that break down.

When that happens it feels like a death - we grieve, we get angry, we have regrets, we wonder ‘what if?’ Three times Peter denied Jesus and today we hear Peter express his love for Jesus three times. Jesus welcomes Peter back into community with him. Peter experiences Resurrection; he is given new

life. There is no situation, no matter how terrible, that Jesus cannot transform, forgive, welcome back, restore. Peter says to Jesus - ‘Lord you know

everything’ and we too must remember that Jesus knows our hearts, as He knew Peter’s heart. The questioning here is perhaps so that Peter can hear it for himself. The relationship is restored and we, like Peter, are once more

invited in to ‘Follow me!’

Lord, we thank you for people who have forgiven us, not a mean, calculating forgiveness, not harping on the ways in which we wronged them, but forgiving

with the forgiveness of Jesus, so that it was like coming back from a hard night’s work, and seeing some bread there and a charcoal fire with fish cooking on it and the very person we had hurt saying, ‘Come and have breakfast. ‘ And we not having to ask any questions because we knew that

MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK.

Sanctuary Lamp: Special Intention.

In the gospels the disciples never catch

fish without the help of Jesus. So when they are

told to go out and preach, to make disciples, and to feed the flock, they know that they will do so with

his help. For now he is with us always.

The phenomenal growth of believers in Jerusalem evoked annoyance and fear

among the clerical Jewish leaders. Peter was not fazed by their bullying

reprimands. His famous reply ‘obedience to God comes before obedience to men’

set the tone for future relationship between the Jewish establishment and the

young church. It is a very good time to read the first twelve chapters of the Acts,

in a group or on ones own, to imbibe Peter’s response to the commission he

receives in today’s gospel.

The sacrificial lamb was always important to Hebrew religious worship, especially in the Temple. The Passover Lamb was central to the celebration of

Jewish freedom from slavery. As Christ was gradually understood to be the

sacrificial victim of the new dispensation, the title Lamb and then, Lamb of God,

came to be used when talking of Him. In today’s reading, the Lamb is worthy of

all praise by all peoples. _________________________________ Anniversaries: We remember in our prayers this weekend Lar Larkin, Priory St. Ellen & Joe Cahill, Castlecomer. Sarah Casey, (nee Dooley). Tommy Nolan, Charleton Hill. Bridie Doran, High Hill. James & Ellen Grace, The Bullawn.
