Dear Parents and Carers,

Remembrance Day One of my proudest moments as Principal at Paringa Park is our Remembrance Day Assemblies where staff, students and parents collaborate to produce a significant and moving ceremony. Tuesday was no exception. Sue Mauger coordinated the ceremony where students explained the significance of the day and recite the Ode of Remembrance. Year 3 student Kate O had memorised the entire ‘In Flanders Fields’ poem and Lawson H performed the song ‘Miss You’ he had written for the occasion accompanied by parent Sandy Hosking on cello. Selected students then laid wreaths they had made in class. Jon Osborne played ‘The Last Post’ on trumpet followed by a minute’s silence. Students listened intently for the whole 20 minutes including the minute of silence when you could hear a pin drop. The students showed great respect for the occasion and I congratulate everyone involved including the teachers who had lead up discussions with their classes.

Another proud moment is acknowledging our Skipping team who are the State Champions!

Glenelg Christmas Pageant Sunday 16

“Bubbles and Bells”.

Don’t forget this coming Sunday the pageant begins at 10:30am. We will be meeting on Augusta Street by 10am. Look for the big red bell! Float number 26. All community members are welcome to join in. Please dress in a Christmas theme or as a bell! All participants will need to wear a hat, sunscreen and carry a water bottle. I will be looking for two strong dads to push the trolley and some helpers to hold the second banner. Looking forward to a great day. Sue Mauger

Hamper of Hope All non-perishable donations will be given to the Salvation Army to support people in need. If you are able to help, please deliver all donations with long expiry dates to LA1-2, LA3-1 or LA2-5.

Examples: Tinned food with ring pulled tops, brand name cans, long life milk or juice, cereals, sauces and packet food.

Bake Sale

For our Student Action Team activity the girls in LA1-10 held a bake sale. We sold all different

types of sweet treats. The $133.00 that was raised will go to the Australian Breast Cancer Foundation. All the girls pitched in to help make it happen with a great result. Thank you to everybody who brought money to spend!

LA 2-11 Mr R Year 6/7 Excursion Report At the end of October we went to the National Motor Museum at Birdwood. The class has been studying industry and for the secondary side of industry we have been looking at the motor vehicle. At the museum we started with the Motorworks activity which simulates the Henry Ford assembly line by assigning students to a station on the line to produce a cardboard model of a Model T. We did very well making over 30 Model T’s in the set time. After lunch students explored the museum by way of a worksheet and before leaving we got together for the photo you see below. I think it is time to retire as I look like I belong with the vintage car! Students were great and thank you to the accompanying parents and Judy for assisting.

Choir News The last two terms have been exciting for the Senior Choir, who performed not only at the Festival Theatre in September, but more recently at the Hopgood Theatre in Noarlunga, as part of the Southern Metropolitan Music Festival. It was a fabulous concert night, with 3 soloists selected from our school; Nellie C, Jarman S and Tori P. Unfortunately, due to illness, one of our lovely lasses was unable to perform on the night, but came and supported our choir by watching in the audience (what loyalty!)

This term our Paringa Park Concert night will be on Thursday, 4

th December starting at 6:30pm. The theme

this year is ‘Christmas around the World’. Each class has been allocated a song which tells about the traditions held in different countries around the world. If families could please help students to dress in appropriate clothes for their country it would really help with the atmosphere of the night. If you have a sparse dress up box or don’t feel inclined to be a bit crafty then dressing in the flag colours of the country allocated to your children would be fine…as would anything Christmassy/red. I have heaps of ideas if you want to pop over and see me. Thanks, Steph Hammond

Instrumental Music Lessons 2015 In 2015, there will be the opportunity for students in Year 3 and Year 4 to learn a stringed instrument. Instruments being offered are Violin, Viola and Cello. Group lessons are provided free of charge by Judy Fletcher who is a DECD Instrumental Music Teacher. Instruments and Books are available for hire through the school at a cost of $100 per year.

Following the first year of tuition, students have the opportunity to join the school string ensemble.

Before deciding to learn an instrument, it is important to consider whether your child has the

Library News Creative and innovative making The reception children in LA 1-3 class have been busy working on a terrific story using a range of digital tools. Using the iPad minis and integrating the camera, a drawing app, iMovie, a puppetry app, black light puppetry, clay animation, voiceover and music, the children have created an integrated re-tell of a classic story. The children in LA 1-2 and LA 3-1 have also been using Lego movie maker and drawing apps on the minis to create stories and Claymation movies. The skills the students are building are enhancing their digital literacy, text literacy and their IT skills and the products they are creating together are helping them build together as a team. Congratulations kids we look forward to seeing your final results. Christmas books We are putting these on display for browsing and borrowing from Monday and children may be interested in reading some of our extensive collection of books that cover a wide variety of seasonal celebrations around the world. There are many that have craft or making activities and wonderful stories and illustrations. Returning what you don’t need… It is time to start hunting at home for any books you may have that need to be returned. All student borrowing finishes at the end of week 7 but if there are books you no longer need it would be good to get them back sooner. Check under the bed, behind the couch, in your class tray….and start sending them back now. Thank you Anne and Judy

Congratulations 5-in-a-row! Great news from our skipping team who competed in the State Skipping Championships last Saturday! For the 5

a row the team has won the prestigious “Group Routine” event. It was an outstanding day for our school team who also won the “Overall School Champion” for 2014. This is the first time our school has won the overall award which was a great achievement. We were very proud of the way the team performed and it was also great to see Zane come back and compete in some individual events. Our medal winners were: GOLD – Whole Group Routine; Speed Relay Team (Beth, Olivia, Billie, Tori M); Speed Double Under Relay (Tori P, Lauren, Mabel, Brianna); Billie 1 min speed; Beth Me. 1 min speed and 30 sec speed; Tori P 30 sec speed; Zane K Freestyle Routine;
